| Just thought that I'd chime in here... I love my taig. I bought one of the CNC ready ER collet using extended length mills in december of 05 from cartertools.com. I then bought a xylotex cnc kit and mach 3 to run it (by this time I was out ~1400 bucks, not bad at all). I've used it to make BB cannons out of aluminum, molds and plugs for model warship components out of aluminum and machinable wax, electric motor mounts for my buddies, Pumps, etc. Primarily I've cut aluminum, balsa, plywood, UHMW plastic, nylon, and wax but I have a buddy who I believe is using his to mill out 4140 steel. For the cost/size, it is a great mill to own.
Also, if you want to do a lot of wood cutting, people online have made router/dremel attachments for the taig to get to the higher spindle speeds that will really help. The only issue with wood is that the dust can gum up the lead screws if you don't keep an eye on them.
