This spring is a very good idea.
The g23 engine that i use in my xl gasser got one of those in the carb from stock.
Rubber band or spring this would be a security more ppl should consider to add to their heli.

The idea of crwling under the blade to stop the engine is scary, i heard those story too often already, glad no one got hurt .

umm good idea but instead of that how about takeing one of those servo arms with 2 arms and put something like that out of alluminum on the carbrator and sevro with a rubber band or spring on the other side of the servo arm so if something does come off itll just shut off and you wouldnt need a stronger servo since its a pushpull deal just be thank full that heli wasnt a caliber 30 how the body over hangs the motor i also heard that if u put your finger over the muffler hole itll turn off but since the muffler is hot i dont like this idea this lol

Don't put your finger over the muffler

I had an Irvine 36 in an Ergo that just refused to shut down. Blades were stopped and the engine was at idle so I put my finger over the exhaust as I do with my RC Monster Truck. Trouble was the blanking screw for the unused nipple had fallen out so it didn't cut the engine. After a mere second or so I had burned through more layers of skin than I care to remember. Pinching the fuel line or puling it off is the safest way to stop an engine that isn't responding as expected.

4 years learning to hover, I think I'm progressing well....

I think is most cases, the carb barrel gets loose from its horn. A ball link in a resonably good condition would never come off. So the case that a spring on the horn would work is very remote.

In my opinion a mod that would increasesafety would be to secure the horn on a hex shaped barrel, or to make the barrel and the horn one piece.

I have experienced this problem twice(horn sliping on the carb barrel) on a raptor and on a GPH. In the first case I had a crazy raptor buzzing for 1 minute with me wandering what I could do then it tipped and broke the usual rotor parts (blades, shaft, spindle, flybar.....).
The second time I knew better. I went to the radio menu, reversed the throttle and then reversed it again and it idled....
Unfortunatelly the raptor was mine and the GPH wasnt...

The raptor's engine was right out of the box, and I was braking it in! Never thought of tightening the horn's screw!

A similar thing happended to me except that the engine was at full RPM.

I hid behind a tree while controlling the heli the best I could and waited for the fuel to run out. A friend offered to 'pull the fuel line' and I didn't want any part of that type of risk.

Better the heli die that a person and day.

I had the battery die on a xcell gasser
i accidently left the video transmitter turned on running off the reciever
battery only did this for testing as it uses heaps of power
but forgot to disconect it
anyway after a brief flight I got a couple of tail twitches so I landed
and cut back to a fast idle and the battery died
I had 3\4 tank of fuel onboard and with the current engine speed
I guesed I had about 30 - 40mins of waiting
so I decided to lift the tail and a friend closed the choke
with a large stick which finally killed the engine
I could not believe my luck another few seconds of flying and it would have crashed who knows where and even being close to a heli runing at flying speed with absolutely no control was very scary
I learnt a big lesson that day
