| Norvel Vmax-6I can't comment on the electric upgrade, but here are a few things I found out.
1. Voltage to the glow plug. These plugs are 2 volt not 1.2, a fully charged SCR cell will work fine, use an extra plug to check that you are getting enough juice, I have also used 2 AA's in series for 3 volts in a pinch without burning up the element.
2. Prime. These engines like to start wet, especially the first start of the day. Don't flood it, but since the intake is below the cylinder it is having to suck fuel uphill through the crankcase.
3. Voltage to your starter. Starting is marginal at best with ~12v on a standard starter, it just doesn't spin fast enough. Try the Mark Ryder Benford conversion. (2)6 cell nicad packs are about 16-17 volts straight off the charger.
Once you get these 3 things worked out, it should start every time. I know some people have had problems and that will happen with just about any engine. Once I got mine dialed in, it starts every time, no muss, no fuss. Prime, glow, starter.....BBRRAAAPPP. I have heard people post that they use half throttle to get theirs to start. Mine starts everytime at high idle on throttle hold. And as usual YMMV. Good luck. |
