Engines Plugs Mufflers Fuel > OS 61 SXWC enough for Rappy 60???

I want to buy a OS 61 SX WC for my Rappy 60 and i wonder if the 61 is enough engine for 3D-flight!

I am also thinking of buying a Musclepipe but are there other good mufflers/pipes with good power?

All suggestions are welcome...

Thanks,

Yes More than enough. The Rappy was not designed to take the power of the 80's & 91's. None of the current helis were designed for that much power. Some are now comming out with conversion kits and upgrade parts to handle the power. Dr Scoles has been flying a Freya with the 91 for quite some time and has gone though many one way bearings as the outer case cracks from the power.

OS 61 plenty

I have the OS 61 -SXH-WC on my R60 with a Weston pipe and it has more than enough power. Those full power/collective vertical climbouts are awesome

I'd say go with the OS61, you'll be more than satisfied.

OS 61 SXWC enough for Rappy 60???

Hi Jbrundt,

Is it the Weston one-piece muffler that you use?
Are there different versions of it?
Does it need a framebrace too?
How much nitro are you using with it?
Where did you bought it?

Thanks.

I have the OS 61 SX-H WC in my Raptor 60. Can you say..........SWEEET!
I have the weston pipe for it and a metal framebrace (heliHut.com) that'll go on this week.
I'm running CP 15% with no problems and long run times. I do have the bigger tank and a 2oz header though. I get about 15 mins out of it. I'm no 3D'er yet, but I really like my Raptor 60.
I would imagine a YS ST1 or 2 would do a great job of it too.

Raptor30,

The Weston pipe is one piece. It bolts right to the OS with no problem. I don't use any sort of frame brace. Weston in fact recommends against it. I have 4 gallons of 15% CP thru the engine and pipe with no problem what-so-ever.

I got it from Heliproz when I bought the engine. The Weston is around $65. It has a preinstalled fitting for tank pressure. I've heard many people say that the Weston pipe brings out more performance from the OS61.

You can see a pic of the pipe and motor on my Raptor page of my web site:

jbrundt, Good info

I need to ask if weston recomends against the framebrace on the 60 only or any size?
I think Ricks RC recomends the brace for the 30's w/weston. On the 60's ???

Most heli's have full length lower frames (century, hirobo, kalt....) and I was hoping to use the brace to keep from busting the frame mounts for the landing gear on hard landings. Just replaced the front ones on my 60. Only $8.00 but a little time to swap out.

Thanks JB

I found this post and I am wondering the same thing that never got answered. Should a frame brace be used with a weston on a R60?

There is a difference betwen a tuned pipe holder (which supports the rear of the pipe) and a frame brace (which is usually some type of plate that bolts to the 4 corners of the lower frames to strengthen the frames).

Hope this helps
