HIROBO Freya - Sceadu - Shuttle > Sceadu piro rate....

Ok test flew the Sceadu today. Seems really nice just need to trim it up a bit.
I did notice the tail has a WICKED piro rate. I have the ATV's set at 80 right now. Didn't seem to settle down any at 60.
Any suggestions. Best I can tell the linkage and control rod are the correct dimensions.

OH Jeff.......

Also anybody using a carbon rod on the tail? I have the stock wire but looking to beef that up a bit so I get less apparent slop in the system.

Gain

What kind of Gyro are you using? A good way to slow the piro rate down is to turn up the gain on the gyro. I have my ATVs set to 110 (GY401 Gyro of course), and my piro rate is managable. Then I like to have a slower piro rate setup for piro flips and other maneuvers. To do this I just setup my Dual rates. I've believe I have it set to like 70% when I flip a switch.

As far as the carbon rod goes -- I used to be a huge proponent of using the carbon, but I haven't found a need for it on the Sceadu. With the three rod guides on the boom I don't get any flex in the stock wire rod. With the two elongated holes facing different directions I'm sure the carbon rod would work equally as well if you choose to do so. I think it was ingenious to mold the support guides the way they did to accomodate both setups.

I hope this helps

Gyro....

Jon,
I am using a JR 460t. I may have to adjust someting on that but the gain was up about 90% (using a Futaba 8U) I turned it down and it didn't seem to make much difference on the piro rate. I will keep tinkering with it. Maybe I missed something in the directions for the gyro.
Right now it is way too fast in the middle.
I agree the wire seems to work well, but it still has a little flex to it at the front. I will re check the postion of the first guide it may be too far back.

Thanks for the info
Jason

Hello

Try using expo to slow down the middle. I have not used the 460 yet so I cannot comment on how to set it up. I generally run 40% in hover and inverted hover slow flight and 20% in full aerobatics. I'll adjust it to help me find the sweet spot for those tornandoes if need be.

Thanks Jeff.

Re read your setup sheet off the website and noticed the expo on the tail. Never done that before (never needed to) I have set it up with some expo and will try it this weekend in Vegas.
If I can't figure it out Mike Scoles will be there to help me fix it up.

Thanks
Jason

the stock tail blades will cause this, do you have some c/f tail blades?

12 dollar fix

Stock works great, but if you dont like"the wire",you can go to a hobby shop and pick up a dubro "golden rod", Its a carbon flexible shaft that rides in a plastic tube, and comes with 2 threaded rods which will accept hirobo ball links. They come 2 to a pack, trim it to the size you need, and add a ball link to each end and tape the finished linkage to your tailboom,w electrical tape, after you get it all set up,no rods, no friction,no clamps, works like a charm, never any slop..
second cheap fix,
throw a set of KSJ or ergo Tail Blades on 30 size for the 30 or 60 size for the 50 (93mm i think)the stock blades are not too aggressive, and youll get a good sized disc w the bigger blades plus get better tail response along with easing the work load on the gyro, plus theyre cheaper than a set of 25 dollar nhp carbons and do the same thing......
just figured i'd pass it along
golden rod 4 bucks
ksj tail blades( ergo style) 7.95

Sceadu tail rotor

Hey Mitch, what's up!

Good advice, and that's what I exactly did for mine.

But, I spend a few bucks more for a pair of 2500-061 4X9X4 bearing and a pack of 0402-596 SE tail blade grips. This would rid of the thrust bearings on the tail blade grips, which give a bit of slop. I could now crank the gain up higher.

my 2 cents....

Glad to see you guys here. I just discover runryder.com recently, and glad to see both you guys are pretty active here, so I thought it would be fun to join in.

Mitch, thanks for getting the radio tray for me, really appreciated! Next time you see me I will kick butt with that Go-Ped, I promise!

Hey JG, what's this "ampex456" means BTW? Some sort of kick butt equipment?

God! I miss you guys...maybe I should stay in the States...

Hey dude

Hey bud,

Ampex456 is a brand name for 2" recording tape used in recording studios. Today most use 499, but I still hold the smell of 456 close to my heart . .

Oh boy watchout, Jason on a goped.

Sorry to break up the reunion

Just kidding. Thanks for the info. Figured out the problem this weekend in Vegas. It wasn't the tail blades or the gyro. Operator error. In my rush to put it together I plugged the gyro into the wrong channel. DOH!!!
Now I have the gain down to about 50% and holding nicely. Going to upgrade those pretty tail blades for something that works. Like 60 size Freya's.
