LOL....thanks Jason.

No I can't. Tomorrow I leave Hong kong up to london town. By the time I get home I think the weekend will be done and dusted. I have no idea what day it is that I get home. 26th I think.
Anyway will take at least two days before I feel human enough after I get home to fly....and oh one more rather large problem...I have heli's but no radio control gear! It's all gone.

Enjoy hamilton.
cheers

Hi Glenn the Futaba Faast system is pretty good, I have it in most of my models now and will do the rest when I get time.

The 8ch and above works on the 2048 res and the others on 1024, much the same as the JR only there 9ch and above are 2048.

One thing to be carefull of is the 2.4modules are area specific so if you want a radio that works on both 2.4 and regular freq then you need to gewt them from the same place.

If you get an NZ one you will only have the 40mHz option so if you want to use 72 then you will have to get it off shore (but why would you want the 72 as well?)

I am loving this spektrum stuff it is good to know your safe if you havce a fly in ytour locval park without some snotty kid shooting you down on the other side of the park.

Just the fact of not having to stuff around with antenna wires is enough reason to change.

The 12 ch Futaba is priced fairly well in NZ even the 14MZ has come down in price a lot.

What broke on your Tx, what brand? so now you have a raptx.

Its not often your Tx crashes first, its usually Heli first, then you throw the Tx.

Hey Glenn

Ive used both Futaba & JR, the only thing I dont like about futaba is that I cant fly with my fingers resting between the flight mode switch. Just feels uncomfortable for me.

The JR is far easyier to scroll through the menu, although some of the mixer programs can be confusing.

The menus on the Futaba are pretty good, much quicker than the JR once you know where you are going, ther are a hell of a lot more options especially on the 14MZ, I have never tried to put m fingers between the switches so not sure what the 12 and 14 are like for space between switches, they are much bigger than the 9ch radios so might have more room, I will have a look tomorrow and see.

I do like the JR radios and they out sell the Futaba by miles but I wouldnt swap my 14MZ for one, even if the 14 MZ is over kill for me and is only running on five cylinders I just love toys.

Getting a T-Rex 700 next week so that will be fun, I have only ever had a couple of short flights with 90 machines. I had a little taste of John Knox's JR sylphide on Friday afternoon and even with no expo that thing just sat in the sky like a rock, hopefully the 700 will be similar, the chances of me doing anything special with it are some time away but Jonny should be able to make it bark.

yeah i got my stickies all over a 12z today. I actually liked it although robins sentiments about the switches being close together are confirmed. I dont normally fly with my fingers between the switches so It wouldn't bother me too much.

The sticks are very light and the gimbals feel real smooth.
The programming from what I saw is pretty darn comprehensive and much easier than previous versions of futaba to operate.

It's quite nice. I haven't decided yet though. Bit like a computer screen.....it's the thing you use and look at so it has to be right.

Got to go get my beauty sleep and lots of it. Got the long haul tomorrow.
Cheers

Hey guys.

Have a great time in Hamilton this weekend - looks like the weather is going to be cracker. I have family commitments that keep me from coming.

Yeah I hear ya Robin. Thing is I dont fly that way as I dont have the range of movement in my forefinger and thumb to nipple grip and fly it the way you do. Sucks getting older. I played with one the other day and simply moved the front two switches forward and found there was plenty of room although there are "bases" to the switches and they can't be moved.

Hope you guys enjoyed Hamilton.

Cheers
Glenn.

Well, I am absolutely DISGUSTED with the piss poor turnout for the Hamilton event this weekend. Shocking. I am deciding what to do next but the SIG will need to discuss this for sure. 8 pilots all up for the competition is just not good enough. Fly ins draw crowds, whisper one word of a competition though and everyone runs for the hills.

MAN UP I say. Get some Viagra, harden up and fly for Chrissakes (I flew like CRAP for example in this comp, do you see me hiding out?). Competing is the ONLY way to objectively grade your skill progression. Plus, flying in front of a crowd takes strong nerves, which will help your flying elsewhere. I honestly don't know what else to say just yet but I am sure I will think of something.

Jason thats not like you to be short of words???

Maybe you need to look first at how it is being advertised, put across, organised & run on the day & whos running it if you get this things sorted then people will compete again. We used to have a good turn out years ago when things were run on time to a schedule with discapline. Currently how do you expect competitors to comit time & effort with expence & discapline to learn the routines etc. when the events are being advetised as a 2 round comp followed straight after with a fun with time set aside for those to fly scale. which one is it ???????????? I thought priority was 3D comp??? so why even mention scale & funfly they can fly at funflys or their own clubs. What happened to flying 3 rounds???

To give you some history i have been flying since before gyros were around with 4 ch radio. Iv competed in the scottish national champs. the irish national champs & the english national champs aswell as other comps in germany competing with people like, len mount, colin bliss, john wallington, vago nordigan, mark tilbury etc.to be honest they would piss themselfs laughing at the way the comps are trying to be run here hence why i did nt even bother wasting my time turning up & wont be until things change.

For example & ill keep this short,

1, Why 2 rounds ?? who changed this & why
2, If pilots breifing is at 9.45 that does not mean 10.30 if you miss pilots breifing you dont fly simple as that they wont miss the next one.
3, It is not a fun fly before the comp nor during lunch time.
4, What are planks doing flying during lunch time this just extends lunch out to 2 hrs.
5, The score board should be taken every where & updated between each round (missing in action at the nats ??? the biggest event of the year ) why.
6, The score board is used to syke you up see what you have to do for the next round its a mind set.
7, You need to have certificates written up & presented on the same day to make people feel of importance & they have a sence of acheivement then they will come back.
8, You cant modify rounds & combine novice with sportsman ( shell be all right ) NO it wont.
This is just a start.

new to the RC world

Hi anyone

I am brand new to this and I have always wanted to get into flying RC helicopters since childhood, but growing up the way I did I was lucky to have had a roof over my head. I am now in the service and have been serving my country for 18 years come November. I just purchased my very first electric helicopter and flight simulator to get started. I got the Honey Bee King II with the 370 motor and a 11.1 V 1000 Li-Ploymer battery. What would be the best and longest lasting battery for flight with the set up I have? also should I upgrade the motor and speed control? would that make a difference on how long my battery will last during flight times? I don't know anything about this and any help would be very much appreciated.

Would the 11.1V 4000mAh 15C "Exceed RC Fusion Power Series" High Performance Lithium Polymer Battery be to big for my helicopter? and would this give me a longer flight time?

I am the short guy on the right.

Beto
