I dont want to get in the poo with any insurance companies so will have to contact them before we get too carried away raiding them. for parts.

Good Idea Kevin. If they are good enough to recognise our heli's as insurable goods and pay out on them we need to give them the same consideration. I know that sounds a bit suck a$$ especially from me but it's these things that ultimately cause our premiums to increase and the companies to become nervous to insure our heli's in the future. (if folks are dishonest that is) So good one for keeping it on the level Kev.
I am sure once you have been paid out they become the property of the insurance company and they will be put up for sale to recover costs. I am sure they would be ok with replacing something like a battery with something that will do the job to recover costs.

The list from them is a bit of a wild guess, they said they had three 600 helis and one was a lot bigger than the others

perhaps one of them grew up?
Like a synergy perhaps?

I am interested to know....did everyone get paid out by insurance???

Neil?
Wayne did.
Kevin did.
Anyone else?

rob if you over pitch and slow the rotor head the tail slows too and thats when it lets go.
If it's a 401 then you can do it fine but just keep the headspeed up. Is that what you have? What is your gain and have you got the throws maxed?
which way are you going? What tail blades?

HAYES CLUNK FUEL LINE MEDIUM (Black)

Hey Guy's,

I've seen a few guys talking about hayes clunk and we have some in stock for those that are interested in it. It can be ordered directly from our website......

Coming into winter it's always a good time to do regular repairs or those maintenance jobs we all keep putting off till it’s too late!!!

Cheers

Every one who had helis stolen,

Have had the claims approved, Waynes and Jonny's were pretty quick.
Some of mine has been paid and all would have been by the end of the week if the helis hadnt turned up. Glad they have I dont have time to rebuild them at the moment and they all had the best of everything on them so nothing to gain by building new ones.
Neils was the last to be approved but he has been given the go ahead to spend up.

I think all of the recovered helis that have been paid out will go up for tender so its who ever puts in the highest bid wins.
Hopefully we will get them back in Hamilton this week so we can check them over for damage and to see what is missing.

Only one of the 450 size machines has been recovered so far and it is in three bits and at least one or two of the 600 helis are missing, the cops couldnt even tell if they were electric or gas powered so we will just have to wait and see what turns up.

The recovered gear will belong to four different insurance companies, they may deal with them in different ways but we will soon find out what makes the insurance companies tick.

I seriously doubt the insurance companies will miss out on any chance to get an extra buck, or try selling them to the general public..

I was impressed with your close call earlier in the day. How low can you go..
Luck no worms stuck their heads up to see what was going on...

Thanks to Brett at RC Bandit and the NP crew. Good weekend, with a good turn out too.

Well, I have now had 2 packs fail for different reasons. In Taupo, a Deans plug (pre-wired by Fromeco) had a cold solder joint that let go (you could see the flat spot on the solder where it did not adhere cleanly to the plug) - SMACK. Yesterday, I had a pack die - totally - on me. Fortunately on impact the fuel tank was thrown clear of the bird and the engine died rapidly. I took the carnage to the Pitts and Jonny plugged in his pack and bingo, it all worked fine. I plugged my pack into my 8 Ball and nothing, didn't even light up the LCD. And this pack had just come off of charge from my Triton and had a full charge. I think a joint inside the pack failed causing a direct short or something like that. Fromeco never replied to my first email re the first pack. Tomorrow Kurt will be getting a phone call from me. That's 2 sets of Radix in 2 weeks for me.

Oh well, life Rotors on.

Yeah, my close call scared me too. Bailed from a piroflip and lost orientation for a split second. By the time I got it back and recovered my skids were in the grass - thank Gawd for the Hyper eh??? I needed baby wipes after that one. LOL.

Sorry I had to miss it. I couldnt get away for two days and it was too far to go for one day.

Got to my Hamilton Field yesterday as most were leaving because it was too windy. Wind then stopped as they drove out the gate and I had 3 hours of the field to myself - not a cloud in the sky. Really weird with knowbody there, v8's street racing in Hamilton probably kept most away.

Thanks Brett and the New Plymouth guys for a great weekend.
Plenty to see and the full size demo was cool too. Nice to see Colin's big and very expensive bird take to the air. Glad to see it winding down on the ground!!! LOL

Damn I missed seeing the Trex go in Jason. A good mate would have waited until I was watching. You must be a master at rebuilding them by now huh?

Some real nice scale machines. The newer premade scale machines to be bolted around a trex or raptor frame makes it a possibility of getting one for me now. Can't be bothered with filler, primer and paint. I have a good reason for that....I am a lazy bastard.

No heli's stolen.

Plenty of wind but didn't stop most from flying. Still gutted we didn't see that chinook in the air Wayne. Bit more committment next time huh?

Night flying was a bit of fun too.

Cheers Guys.
See ya next time

I always seem to miss Jason stacking his helis. Sounds like it was a good turn out regardless of the weather. The forecast was for lots of wind so kitesurfing was the hobby of choice.

Roll on summer.

Oh btw insured my helis through AMI and didn't bump the premium at all. Strangely though they wouldn't cover my kitesurf gear under contents. So now (according the insurance details) i have insurance on 3 yachts - impresses the ladies, pity there is only room for one

Hi Guys,

Over here:
http://rcforums.co.nz/forums/viewto...t&sd=a&start=34
we have a thread going re the NZ RC Heli Nationals. There has been some discussion on whether to try and separate our Nationals from the NZMAA Nationals held around Christmas time every year. The NZMAA may not sanction this and so my argument is that we can create a separate one of our own if we wish, with our without the blessing of the NZMAA - it's just another event after all, though it would be an annual one of course.

The other point of discussion is where to hold said event. Cheye and the Wellington boys have graciously offered their field and expertise to run the event. I would prefer it to be held in Rotorua myself for several reasons but I think it should be voted on democratically as well. An online poll could easily be setup for such a purpose.

Come on all you NZ Heli Flyers, we need YOUR thoughts and input here or things will just stay as they are and I for one will never go to the NZMAA Nats due to when they are held (unless they change dates of course).

Cheers

I've cut and paste my suggestion from the other forum for all those lazy bums that dont want to go over there and have a look.............

Ok, the Nats.
There has been plenty of discussion out at the Wellington field about this over the last couple of weeks.
I'll cut to the point straight away.
We at Wellington would like to host them.
We put a huge amount of effort to into the Wellington Heli event this year.
I personally put in hundreds and hundreds of dollars to run the event for two reasons.
Firstly I wanted to put something back into the hobby as I just love it!! People have helped me out over the years so
now its my turn to give something back.
Secondly I wanted an event that the heli guys from around NZ would be proud of and more importantly bring everybody together.
I love the people in the hobby and I have meet some wonderful people. Over the years my closest friends have come from the hobby so that says something.
Apart from the 05 heli pageant when have we had over 40 pilots attend a funfly?? I cant think of anytime.
People poked fun at me because I said it was central NZ which it is. The numbers of people attending proved that.
Guys from Auckland/Christchurch/Reefton/Hamilton etc etc
Its sort of an equal distance for everybody so theres no favoritism!

The amount of work going on in the background building up to the event was huge.
Everything from catering to website design, toilets, entry packs, confirming membership with NZMAA etc etc took time and $$$ but we
now know what we are up for. My company sponsored a lot of it and I'm willing to do it again (and hopefully again and again-buy some cars off me guys!!!! :-)
Our idea is for a 3 day event Friday 6th, Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th March 2009. The days are free with or club already
Our thoughts were for a combined heli funfly combined with a national competition.
I think its really important to combine the both a funfly and comp for lots of reasons.
Firstly lots of people wont go to a comp because of the intimidation factor. Comps scare them and they dont want to participate.
Having a funfly at the same time allows people to come along and once there we can encourage them to have a go.
I talk to about 6 guys at our club and asked if the would compete at the Nats. All said no. I then asked them if they were flying at a funfly
and the Nats were on at the same time and they saw that it wasnt hard would they give it a go. ALL said yes.
We are lucky that Trentham flying site is huge and we can run many flight lines. We comfortably had three of the event and there plenty more room for three or so more.
I know the wind was a factor but it was just a bit of bad luck. March is the calmest month in Wellington by far and the weeks leading up to the funfly and
the weeks after have been beautiful. We could run the event in Rotorua/Auckland/Christchurch/Palmerston North/Napier and it could pour down all weekend
so its a risk no mater where its held. The bonus for Wellington is that the rain normally doesn't hang around long so a washout weekend would be unlucky.

We have the infrastructure in place now and more importantly people willing to put this on but we need some thoughts and ideas to see if people want it.
If you do lets get the ball rolling as there is LOTS and LOTS to do.
We can make this a very cool event.
Lets hear your thoughts.

Fun fly + National competition gets the big THUMBS UP for me
No need to elaborate on the reasons, its all been said in previous posts.

As far as location, I think rotation would be a good idea, probably between Rotorua, Wellington, and Christchurch. That way people who wouldn't normally attend because of the long distance could at least manage once every three years. I could easily say I'd prefer it in Hamilton or Rotorua but that would be because its less travel for me

In terms of organising it or how to go about organising.. just ask the Wellington guys how they did theirs.. Apart from the mongrel mob getting in on the game and stealing a bunch of helis (Not the organisers fault by any stretch of the imagination) it was THE BEST organised heli event Ive seen in NZ.

I cant imagine that a NZMAA run helicopter nationals will ever be what the helicopter flyers want it to be. Not in the next 10 years or so. A seperately run event is the way to go
