IMHO, a UBEC is insufficient and I would use a Fromeco or Duralite setup. The UBEC has been tried before and it wasn't successful.

Alan runs Duralites in his and I would think that either the Fromeco or Duralites would work.

Terry, if the three 94758's were swapped for 9252's would that change your assessment of the UBEC's suitability? I have three unused, and the 94758's could be set aside for a new 90.

9252's might be OK but if you experience momentary holds or battery failsafe's then you will know.

I was using 9252's with a 92186 PCM RX and still had problems with a duralite 4000mah battery and 5.1 volt reg. I went with the arizona to be done with it for good. And I am very happy

Anybody use or have a 'cheat sheet' showing all the available parameters of adjustment on one or two pages?

How many of you use the HELI card in your Stylus when you're programming for planks?

That's hard to do if you want to actually create an Aero model and save it.

JKos - How do you disable the pitch sliders on the sides of the Tx? The knobs are ok but the sliders are always getting knocked off center. I have gotten in the habbit of checking everything before starting up but disabled sliders would be one less thing to worry about.

I never tried selecting anything else. But, doesn't the manual say you can't have anything but heli models in the 4 built-in memory spots if you have the heli card in? The way I understood it, you have to save your heli setups to the memory card, take out the heli card, cycle power, and then make up your aero models. Save those to the memory card too. Then to use your heli models, you have to start up with the heli card in and then transfer the heli model(s) back to the tx memory.

Maybe I read that as more complicated than it is.

That being said, you can easily setup and fly a plane in heli mode.

You could do a basic plane setup using the heli programming - Throttle Aileron Elevator Rudder - If you wanted special mixes you might could be creative with the open mixes.

Yup and yup.

Any plank models done w/the HELI card will of course have to use a 'Normal' swash but they should work. It may even be that there are some interesting plank tweaks that aren't possible in AERO, with the only issue being that it's overkill to do so. I'm still learning what this tx can do, so at this point much of my thinking is still speculation. I need to get further into each type at the field.

If my speculations are off please correct me, but so far I've found no inherent limits in flexing the control surfaces and avionics of a plank from within a HELI template -- again, it seems to just be overkill.

But -- won't variable-pitched electric foamies be much easier to set up when starting with a HELI template rather than an AERO?

96813 HELI Card Manual Addendum

Some of the early releases of the Stylus #96813 HELI Program Card Manual omitted descriptions of a few of the functions and the diagrams with which to choose swash types. The good folks at Airtronics refered me to Terry Moore (TMoore) and both he and John Kos (JKos) kindly emailed me the 15-page pdf addendum that was included in later printings of the manual.

Thanks guys.

More discoveries:

Some of the earliest Stylus's manufactured didn't have the 'trainer' capability enabled. No hardware needs to be changed to enable buddy-boxing, but this function must be enabled within the Service Menu, which usually means a trip to Anaheim, Ca (from US locations anyway).

Also, Alan Sr and I made an interesting discovery today. Since I chose two years ago (for no particularly logical reason) to begin flying RC with a Mode 3 (lefty) tx, I'm now locked into flying this way since I'm unwilling to risk my birds relearning the muscle memories required for the change. No one has been able to fly my birds and I haven't been able to fly anyone else's.

Turns out that by loading a model off of Alan's memory card and plugging his frequency module into my tx, my lefty tx can properly control one of his birds. This of course is only a big deal for lefties like me, but hey -- it's a start.

I'm lovin' this tx more and more every day I use it.

Unless you can access the service menu. He, he, he.

That should work with any mode and it's great discovery. Now you can try all the secret stuff out of the Desert Skunkworks.

Well alrighty then Terry -- give it up! Actually, the surprise mostly was because we thought the stick throw directions and/or the endpoint settings might still be reversed, but it was virtually plug and play.

As for the Skunkworks (don't tell anyone; just between you and me) next week I'll load up the new Szabotronic Helimetric Muscle Memory & Dexterity Card, a little-known tightly-kept secret substitute for the 96813 Stylus HELI card, which transfers all the secrets and benefits of learning RC at age 4 into the hands of old farts and boneheads -- but only if you're lucky enough to be eating your tacos and burritos at the same table.

While we are posting Stylus info, I'll put a link to something I posted a bit ago concerning interaction between the normal mode throttle curve and throttle hold mode.

ESC

I have an e-flight 25 amp esc. I've checked it using another radio/receiver and it worked, but my Stylus will not arm the motor. I've tried FM and PCM, I've tried changing EPA's both ways, I've tried reversing the throttle channel all with no luck. The only thing I haven't tried is a different RX with my TX or a different TX with my RX. Any ideas please???

I can only throw the aircraft so far, and it doesn't fly too well with out the motor.

Flynheli.
