Horizon is going to release a 7 chanel spectrum radio for use in "normal" models... they flew two jets at superman jet rally with them and flew very far away..

Our hobby is going to change big time.

7 chanel will be first.. then they will release radios with more capability.

I fly futaba...sad day for me as futaba is no where close to doing this.

Between Lipos and electrics and now Spectrum radios that work in large models... very big changes for us... and perhaps saviors to the hobby

It isn't revolutionary UNTIL the achieve latency figures are as good or better than the best current RF systems. If their new 7 ch is the same speed as the park flyer SS system, it's like flying in mud. If the new system is as fast or faster than a MZ, Stylus, or 10X (in PPM), then that will be something to watch.

Yes, I am cynical. There's just more to this stuff than no interference or being able to fly a gazillion feet away from the transmitter.

I never knew channel management was a problem in day to day flying. i think the problem lies with the asses at big events holding onto a pin like its there mommas tit. I do think spectrum is a great thing though. Lots of benefits over the current system.

Thanks

You don't know that, unless you work for Futaba. Plus, there is a 3rd party solution that is due to be on the market in the next couple months that is a module you can put into your existing Futaba radio.

There is already a company working on modules to make Futaba and JR radios into spread spectrum technology.

It'll be intersting to see what the radio manufacturers come up with over the next few years. They should be able to do a WHOLE bunch more than they currently do.

With a reliable 2-way interferance free radio communications and some decent software you should be able to come up with some pretty amazing stuff and not pay any more than Futaba wants for their current 12 & 14 MZs.

no latency problems

the two flying the jets said they never felt so connected to the aircraft.

This is not the same system that is in use in park flyers.

I hope that the others come out with modules... but the Horizon guys indicated that you could not do so reliably or as reliable as the correct unit.

one of my LHS there using spectrum in all there planes from parks to 40%+ for the last year and never had a problems. also he said he has never felt in more control

the main guy at the shop is tied of getting shot down, lockouts or hearing about it by park flyers using 72mhz flying there plane at a nearby park having no clue on what they are doing or regards to others he also was showing me a lot of the cheap all ready to fly park fliers are on 72mhz scary look at the Blade cp cx and others there on 72mhz and most people (non flier) think they are toys for kids . worst case you may a have jerk at your field sees you fling and change his module shoot you down for spite or ??

I've read on RCU that guy in Cal. was flying a 40% was shot down $6000+ by a park fliers guy flying on the other side of the fence of the field they caught the guy so the 40% guy talk to a lawyer to see what he could do the lawyer said your SOL

has anybody here used one on a Gas heli ? fling a $2000+ heli is bad enough worrying about a failure or dumb thumb throw in a radio jam!

anyway it's time for something new better and safer

If you use the DX6 receiver on a an aircraft with big conductive objects (Bigger than a Trex Motor) you wil be crashing. Sooner or later.

Is it true that using Spektrum will prevent the problems I'm having with interference caused from electric motors and speed controllers in my model?
In many instances, yes it will. The radio interference caused by noisy motors, speed controllers, metal rubbing metal, noisy bearings, etc, generates all its interfering noise below 300MHz-right where we've been operating our 72 and 75mHz models. The Spektrum system operates at 2.4GHz, thats 2400mHz and is well above the frequency that model generated noise is on, so the Spektrum system is unaffected.

So you are saying that regardless of Rx position...you will be crashing?

Hello

Curious, why are there 2 Rf modules(each looking like they contain 2 SS Rx...possibly trancievers)? Or maybe its just 2 Rf modules with a different antenna config; possibly a dipole.

2 radios, 2 dipoles total.

The main radio is horizontally polarized and the remote radio is vertically polarized.

Paul has created one of the most significant technological advancements to hit our hobby in the last 50 years.... I am very excited and look forward to being able to purchase this radio....

I think there should be a place secured in the AMA hall of fame for him at this point....

Hello Paul

Sounds really cool. So does each of the RF modules have a signal strength output and a mirocontroller selects the info from the module with the highest signal strength?
