Great imfo guys. I might just have to think about it. I dont know. I might just give it a go as stock. And if I have problems I will just change it. As I said earlier the heli will be built with a Quick UK swashplate, all metal washout unit, aluminum stabalizer set, and a metal head block. So maybe it will not be needed. We will see.

Everyone was a beginner at one time or another, its a learning experience if nothing else. Tho can be expensive also.
Which would you trust more to build a heli correctly, a seasoned pilot/builder or a stark beginner? Sounds like a stupid Q dosent it?
Yet ea. pilot/beginner must face that exact Q in their own minds and then deal with it by asking Qs and HOPING they get lucky enough to get all the correct answers in the proper sequence and in time. No low end heli is going to be perfect so dont worry about it being totally upgraded, worry more about proper setup, and save that all metal endeavour for your XL Pro2K or Vigor CT.
What Im trying to say is its the builders precision and not just multiple upgrades that will build a first class flying heli and mistakes will be made no matter how much metal is installed until pratcise makes it perfect. Dont depend on upgrades alone to fix everything, the metal mixing base would have been suffice really as you still have plastic frames etc.My.02

Interesting response, but I am not a beginner. I have been at this for a while. And the Upgrades were a birthday pressent. As well as the heli its self. And I have built about 5 ships so far so I think I can do it. I just like the goodies. The question that was asked was not becouse I cant build a heli. But becouse I wanted to find out if this mod would eliminate some of the problems that I have heard about the Raptor. I have been flying a Hawk SE for some time. And after a major dumb thumb, which resulted in its demise I decided to give the Raptor a try. But I want it to perform very well. So I asked about this mod. As it is it looks to be a mixed response. But I apreciate the responses just the same. But I will say that I have heard of several experts killing a ship from time to time. So my experience with my Hawk is NOT unique. No offense intended.

Dave,

The thing is you're special ... and we all know it

My current Raptor is bone stock too...well I did put carbon fins and blades on it...oh yes, and a constant tail drive, and a KSJ muffler, but that's it. I haven't even had to flip the grips, but I will ..if it starts woofin'.

Obviously there are some problems with the clutch on some machines. I've been lucky. I've been flying a Raptor since the first day they arrived at our shop and I've yet to have a clutch break in normal circumstances.I'd say I'm as hard on clutches as anyone out there, since I shoot a lot of autos. I did have one on a 46 break in a crash. The engine went wide open, the clutch bell melted down and the shoes turned into bullets. (A good reason to stay away from one that has crashed and has a runaway engine). I firmly believe that clutch - liner clearance and liner installation are the key to making the clutch last.

My TT36 engine is one of the smoothest running engines I own. It was "ok" with the stock muffler, but when I put the KSJ on it, it came alive. Too expensive though.

Brian started this thread and I can't help but wonder, if he's spending as much as he is, why did he buy a Raptor in the first place.

OK so let me tell you guys. The Raptor as well as most of the upgrades were a birthday pressent. I didn't pay for a lot of the things that are going on this heli. So that is the reason that I am doing this stuff. But the question I have is, has anyone seen RaptorDriver's Raptor 46? It is a work of art. I like it a lot. Others may not. But I like the pretty stuff. And if someone wants to go all out on a heli, then why should they not do it? I know when I see a heavily upgraded heli I simply apreciate it for the nice ship that it is. But I don't act like the guy is a morron for spending HIS money. I'm sorry, I am not trying to be rude. But I am not really looking for an aproval for my purchase. I was looking for help with a mod to the ship. If I have ruffeled anyones feathers I apoligize. But I stand behind what I have said. To me it is like telling a guy that he is stupid for buying a Vigor CS when he could have had as much fun with a Raptor 60. Maybe. But I personally would just congagulate the guy on his new toy, and go on. But maybe that is just me.

Sorry guys!

We understand Brian really we do
If you really like upgrading I strongly suggest an XL ST then you can upgrade it for a yr until its a Pro2K. Ive never seen so many upgrade parts in the world like Min Air has, they are awful purdy too! I have an old A frames 60 that I have been upgrading for the last yr and have upgraded almost everything but frames on it so I really do understand what your talking about, we all do it, some of us just hate to admit it, Im a heli upgrade addict and proud of it!
PS- I always upgrade the parts that do make a real diff first tho!

I am going to market and sell special polarized glasses that filter out purple and blue anodising. Then you won't be able to view these very addictive colors on the internet. I'm going to sell these to the heli pilots wives;-) The credit card lobbyists are trying to buy me out as it will really hurt their business
Just as the supermarket people know what colors and music make us hungry, the heli upgrade manufacturers know what colors we can't resist.

It's the middle of winter and I could use a tan, so I'll step in here too. The Raptor I'm flying is dead stock, and it flys just fine the way it is. It never woof, it never poofs, it just keeps on flying. It still has wood blades, very cheap when you hit the ground and that is what an R30 is for. It will do death spirals quite well, 300 foot long dead vertical rolling tail slides and other silliness, and the head never misbehaves at all. It doesn't care if the head is set for 1700 or 2100, it's still stable. Threre are a few others in the ares, they fly well stock too. Some people are putting enough money into R30's to buy a nice medium level Sixty, and it will never fly like a good Sixty. Use the R30 for what it is, a good beginners ship and a great cheap 3D training device. Built stock, the odds are that it will fly like most other stock Raptors, just fine. Don't start fixing it until you are sure it is broke.

My Raptor 50 has:
The 50 mount/pinion/gear.
Ron's Driven tail unit for real nice autos
Mr. Carbon Tail Boom supports because the stock ones brake.
3D fins for obvious reasons.
NHP 95mm blades for constant piro rate while piroflipping.
550 V-Blades.

Never had the woof's and what I thought was the wah-wah's ended up just being too high a gyro gain.

Glad to see that some do understand. But if I told you guys EVERYTHING about the ship, we would have to call the fire department for sure. But I will say that the constant tail drive set is in there somewhere.
