I doubt that it is since the flying field is right next door to a football stadium and a large multiuse park. Henderson won't even let RV folks stay overnight in Wal Mart's parking lot since it's not a campground, so I doubt they would allow you to pitch a tent out there.

Camping

I asked the same question back on 11/5/06, because I plan on doing the same.

11/5/06
Q:
Rocky

Do you allow overnight motorhome parking?

Steve

A:
There is a huge lot in front of (South) the flying field where people park their motorhomes.

Sorry for the delay. I have been out and not next to a internet connection. Yes you can park motorhomes down in the dirt area. I will make sure the county parks do not have a problem. They have not had a problem in the past.

Thanks all for the good questions.

Be sure to have a backup plan for your overnight accomodations. This is a public park and unless the Clark County parks department gives special permission, everyone has to be out of the park by 11pm.

It's probably not a big deal, but until someone says that special permission has been granted for overnight camping, you might want to have a backup plan.

I am not sure why LaserGecko is saying that. We have people camp out at the field every year. The only problem is if the county office does not remember or know a head of time.

I typed that because it's a public park and you never know when you may get a "by the book" public servant with a bug up his ass and/or may not know/care about the history of the event. It would be best to have it confirmed in writing.

Most of the Park Police and BLM guys are great (all of 'em that I've met), but you never can tell (There's one BLM guy who patrols around Primm who never gives warnings and always issues "must appear in court" tickets.) One new officer who didn't get the info or with something to prove could cause a world of confusion.

Camping/Parking at Bennett Field

For those of you questioning the camping/rv parking, as Rockie stated earlier, at almost every event at the field there have been tents and RVs over night without a problem. But, as someone stated earlier, there is always the first time. I would plan on staying at the field. However, to be sure we will check it out with the county.

I would stay at the field if you have the means to do so.

I have been watching various events and fun flys (heli, electric and airplane) at our field for 5 years now. The parking lot, grass area and dirt areas below the parking lot always have RV's, tents, etc during those various events.

I have never seen or heard of a problem. Yes, I guess there is an extremely remote chance something could happen, but I would be willing to bet nothing will change at all. Did I say willing to bet in Vegas?

Heck, when we have the UNLV football games and pre-game tailgating parties, I have seen RV's coming in from everywhere and spending the night before and after the games in their RV's....and the park police drive right by. The stadium is next door to the flying field...everything is kind of connected.

Just in case, I will be happy to hand out Rockie's address to every registered pilot, their family and friends. In fact, I'll personally lead a caravan over to his house. If it fills up, then we can continue to Szabo's which is in very close proximity.

Best Regards, Dario
