I need help setting up my CH-46. I am trying to use the 3 blade heads. Having a severe oscillation problem spooling up. Anybody done this yet?

Wow, the ground was closer than I thought.

Hi,

I have the 3 blade setup on my CH46, the first thing I would do is reduce your pitch dramatically, the setup needs a very high headspead to fly well, begin by halving the values you have for the two blade setup and continue from there, it sounds as if you have too much pitch in relation to headspead all other things being set up correctly.

Reduce your servo throws to 85% and dial in some exp to 25% the 3 blade head setup is very sensitive. If you are using them I would also ditch the MS Gyro's and try something else particulalry for rudder, the PG-03 seams to work ok

Meatbomber has flown the 3 blade head succesfully any input?

I cant help you set it up but im about to buy one of these and one thing I have noticed with these models is they seem to be set up like a regular choper with a tail rotor this helicopter is not like any you have ever seen, In real life because I worked on them the heads would turn the oposite direction to turn and we had gyros on the swashplates that would position them between taxi and fwd flight it moved them to the sweet spot and you wouldnt even want to see how the bell cranks and control rods we set up WOW just amazing the brains that design this thing back in the 50s

track and ballancing was/is a nightmare some aircraft take weeks to track and ballance and we have been flying them for 40 years!

its a complicated aircraft to say the least

hopefully someone can help you with yours

I fly on V22 ospreys now

Patience, above all else is the key to getting it going. I have a Sea knight and sometimes need to walk away from it for a while to regroup. Make sure that you have both rotors phased properly per instructions. then you run it up slowly and get the rotors tracking. I tracked one rotor at a time(blades removed from opposite rotor),to make it easier to track and balance. When both rotors are spooled up their should be little or no vibrations. I used small pieces of colored electrical tape to fine tune everything. It is time consuming, for sure. But if you do it right, you will be happy. I am enjoying building this thing, and can't wait to fly it soon. I am painting the fuselage right now and need to finish the flight setup.
If the fore/aft gyro is set too high, it will oscillate. turn it down to about 50% and go up or down from there.
