Radio - Servo - Gyro - Gov - Batt > 401 software problem.

Hi all

Not long a go my raptor 50v2 crashed.
The storey starts when I got the other heli pilots at my local club to help me setting it all up.
And they all said it where ready to fly. But I where rely nervous and got another heli pilot (rely god pilot) to take it for a test flight. And on the landing the tail started spinning and the heli did not respond at all. The tail hit the ground and my raptor had its first crash.

When I first got my 401 it had problems starting up (would not power on) and when it started up the tail will not move. So I send it in for repairs after talking to the dealer where I bought it.
Got it back whit a letter where there stood what the problem wash. It wash a software fault and there stood it where fixed.
Got it mounded on my rappy and flew whit the gyro for about 6 months when the crash I told about above happed. (Don’t fly that mooch whit my rappy don’t have a car and the flying field is a long way from where I live)

After the crash the gyro did not work again and it froze all the other servos so I send it for a check up (not a repair) got an email where it said that the gyre haves a software fault and will most likely have coursed the crash.
Waited for over 2 months to get that email.
Chose not to get it repaired again and bought a new 401 but not the same place as the first one.
All the other electronics on my raptor works fine and have no problems.
The 401 on my T-rex 450 have no problems.

So now you know the story leading to my question about the Futaba 401.

Is there some one of you out there have had this problem with the Futaba 401?
And how can a software fault block all the other electronics? No other faults where listed on the email.
Is there some one other than me there have had the same problem happen 2 times with there Futaba 401 after a repair?

Sounds like maybe there was 2 problems with it they found one but there was yet one more hiding and that came out on you after you had gotten it back . There is a lot of electronics in that little box . Just sounds like you had a bad one from the start . They in my experience and all I have read are really reliable and usually don't give to many problems for the thousands that are out there . I hope you have better luck with your new one .

Thanks for the reply

Hi.
Yes maybe I just have been unlucky whit the first gyro 401
Don’t know any others who have had problems with their gyro 401. That’s also why I wrote here just to se if any others have had this problem. As I wrote before the other gyro 401 I have has not have any problems.

I must admit that I really don’t know what’s in the box of the gyro 401. Have heard that there is some sort of crystal in side it?
Maybe I should open the broken one and take a look hehehe

But it’s just a little sad that the first crash my raptor have is be course that the repair shop did not find fault nr 2. And yes it suck that I did not crash it my self

Have you tried another 401 in it yet one different than the one that you had repaired ? I would imagine that you will not have any more problems . I think you are the one unfortunate person who got a bad 401 gyro . A new or one out of another bird you have will probably fix all your problems . Good Luck My Freind & Happy Flying

hi again :)

Yes I have got a new gyro 401 a while back and it works. And I have never had a problem whit the gyro 401 on my t-rex.
(the crash by the faulty gy is about 2 months ago. But first now got a program whit eng wordbook in. but still not easy when I don’t know the words of some things )

But still I have that faulty gyro 401 in the back of my mind when I fly my helis
I am a little afraid that this will happen again. But then again I don’t fly that much with my rappy. Have no driver licence and the flying field is about 20 kilometres away. So mostly I fly in my back yard whit my t-rex

By the way ill be posting new pictures on my gallery on Monday 18/19/2006 I will take some pictures of the inside of the faulty gyro 401 so you all can see what is inside the shell :P

Well that's great you haven't had anymore problems . I guess as good as the 401 is you can still get a bad one , just sorry it happened to you and they didn't catch it before they sent it back to you or they didn't catch it before it left the factory . Good luck and Happy Flying
