How is everyone mounting their gyro's on the N9? For the people that are using Futaba 601/611.....one piece of sensor tape, or two with the metal gyro plate?

Also how many of you bother with the velcro security strap. After looking at this months Model Heli World, it shows Eric Larsons gyro strapped down with velcro, but it says it must be LOOSE.I have a little issue with drift at the moment but I think I may have yanked down a tad too hard on the velcro security strap and its picking up a little vibes. Personally although I can see the advantage in that if the gyro tape lets loose the tail is going to go ballistic without the velcro strap, I think that with the shiny surface of the GY611 case combined with the fact that you cant do the strap up too tight for fear of increasing vibrations to the gyro sensor....is it worth it?? I am beginning to think these sensor straps are more for pose value than anything else....like "hey I do so much pirouetting shizzle that with my flying style that wimpy sensor tape would have let the sensor fly off within five minutes" Whatcha think? Sureley a good pre-flight inspection of the tape would reveal if the foam tape is starting to separate and a new piece can be installed no?

So, my question....Has anyone else experienced drifting problems due to these vecro straps being done up a tad too tight?

Cheers, Will.

Two pieces of tape with the metal plate and a velcro strap. I've never had a gyro come off, so I don't know why I bothered with the velcro

I almost lost a machine when the tape split in half. The velcro strap saved my machine. The tape will only last about a year depending upon how much fuel gets on it. I sticky part was good but the foam part just split in two. I will always run the velcro strap as a backup and don't consider it bling.

I've never had a gyro come off or loose before either, but I always use the velcro strap anyway.

Mainly because I've seen what CAN happen.
It gets ugly real quick like!

I had a gyro come loose on my Raptor and it did a really nice pirouetting tail slide into an empty parking lot. I always use a velcro strap now.

I had a gyro sensor come loose on a Freya.

Now I use velcro and the gyro is a regular part of my post/pre flight.
