Synergy R/C Synergy N9 > Is this good enough???

I just redialed my fan hub with a bottom synergy collet and a top robee collet. The first attempt showed a runout of 3 thousands. I made some small adjustments and I was able to get it to about 1.8-2 thousands on the outer edge of the fan hub. I haven't fitted the start shaft or the fan because I wanted to ask if this was a good enough starting point. Or shoud I go for 1 thousand or less on the hub?

I got mine down to 2 thou. I think that is OK. Not great, but OK. What have you others gotten yours down too? Then the question for the machinist out there. How hard or much would it be to machine a new fan hub with a straight shaft threw the center instead of collates to the tolerance of the motor shaft? That way it would work like a raptor fan. Just slide it on, tighten the bolt, and go.

Just got the Robbe nova upper collet. Great, first attempt .004, a little adjustment here and there and by the fourth attempt .0015. With the clutch and shaft .0005 at the tip. Very happy with the results with the Robbe collet. I did use the stock Synergy bottom collet. The Robbe upper is a little longer than the Synergy 9.2mm compared to 7.0. The Robbe engages the fan hub at the bottom of the collet, only about 1.5mm but it is very secure. Overall it only took about 1 hour to get it dialed in compared to the 15 hours I spend with the stock upper, ( I know Synergy has already addressed the problem and a fix is in the works). Take it easy.

Thats good to hear. Where did you get the new upper Robbe Nova collet from? Do you have a part #?

I found that a wee while back....saved me HOURS of work.

The nice thing about that collet is that it is 8mm, and it also has slots going in form both ends, so it tends to take up any slight differences in the fan.

I finally go the motor installed! Everything is under 2 thousands after a little bit of work/luck. Hope I don't have to do that again anytime soon

The right collets are the ones with the ID of 8mm. Though the collets that came with the first batch of kits will work (ID 8.5mm) it takes a lot of time to get them dialed to low numbers. At the OC BoB FF this weekend I was able to get inkspot1967's fan down to 0.0005inch. It had a larger ID collet and the slot was cut wider with a Dremmel wheel. Flying the YS91, there was virtually no motion/vibration of the fuel with the fan/clutch dialed this low.

I have gotten mine down to 0.0015 on the fan and clutch shaft. I have very little to no motion of the fuel in the tank at hover. I though it was very low until I test flew inkspot1967's heli.

So the lower you can get the run out the smoother the heli will be in the air. If you have the time and want the smoothest machine possible try for a lower run out.

That's good info Chuckie. I waiting on my new clutch. When I get that I'm going to try to get the runout as low as possible.
