e-Align T-REX 450-500-600 > OK, I have a really dumb question, what does the 450 and 600 refer to?

On a nitro a .45 and a .60 are not that much differant in size but on the T-Rex the 450 to a 600 is gigantic differance in size.

So just what does the 450 or 600 mean?

I'll take a swag... could be completely wrong but here goes.

450 refers to the old naming convention of brushed motors. If I were asked to rank the motors we run in the T-Rex in comparison to the old take back, I'd say 450 is appropriate.

So to further my probable wrong guess, 600 refers to the larger canned motors from back in the day...

Problem with my explanation is... I never ran either with more than 7 or 8 NiMH cells

The 600 refers to the blade length of 600mm (as far as I know). The motor packs way more punch than the old brushed 600.

brushed motors used to go by a number rating such as 180,, 280 300 and so on. I'm guessing brushless adapted that. Now days, most brushless go by KV and Turns in the numbers on the motor..

When brushless motors first took off, they needed a way to compare them to the existing canned brushed motors. 400, 450, 600, didn't so much relate to power as much as it did the actual dimensions of the motor.

If you look closely at the physical dimensions of our motors I think you'll see where I was going.

Although, I'll be the first to admit I could be completely off. One thing is certain, 450 doesn't relate to blade size at all on the small rex and others have noted that 600mm isn't necessarily the blade length on the 600 in other threads. But, not having a 600, and having never taken the time to do the blade research myself, I cannot confirm that to be true.

The old 600 motors are pretty big size wise. In both cases (450 & 600) there is simply no comparsion in power output or effeciency between brushed and brushless. The only similarity I've ever noted was physical size.

The T-Rex 600 has a blade length of 600mm, it's a 50 size heli:

I imagine that was part of the inspiration for its name but don't have a reference from Align that says so!

Very simpily, its the motor size.

IMO, it was named 600 because of the motor size, not the blade size.

Yes, perhaps it’s based on the physical size of the motors. Let us not ignore the possibility that they just sucked it out of their thumb and thought it sounded good either.

Just some useless info for anyone who’s interested... Even the weakest Trex450 motor provides speed600 like performance, the 430L motor outperforms a speed600race.

On the Trex600 you would need at least 3 speed600’s just to get off the ground, 6 or 7 of them to produce aerobatic performance, and that’s not taking all the extra weight and higher losses into consideration – aren’t you grateful we have brushless motors?
