WITH THRUST BEARING

Finally, someone had the sense to build a tail for our Raptors the right way!!!! Bud you are the man!!!!

I have 2 complete assemblies coming for my stock tailed birds and 2 upgrade kits coming for the older version that was without thrust bearing.

First the autohub and now thrust bearings for the tail, this is freaking awsome!!!

Click on this link, then click "new parts" to see the new tail rotor assembly,

It's pleasing to see the results of my grips failing as it has resulted in pushing the thrust bearing issue forward with good speed.
Well done QuickUK.
We can now wind up the head speeds with confidence.

I purchased two tail thrust grip sets (complete) and a tail box for £118 sterling on friday last week, for shipping on 1st september..

I think that would work out around 60/70 dollars for a set of tail grips with thrust races, and the one piece hub as one assembly..

Do you have a R50 or 90? You mentioned first the Auto Hub and now Thrust Bearings. Is the Auto Hub for a R90? A couple people have said Quick UK has one for a 50 also, but I can't fine it on their site.

I have 2 R90's, that is why I mentioned the auto hub. I have not heard it directly from QUK, but there has been a rumor that they are working on one for the Raptor 30/50. Keep in mind that it is only a rumor and nothing official.

Yug

Is you QUK tail rotor assembly the early version that doesn't have the thrust bearings or is it the new version that was just released that includes the thrust bearing?

I spoke to QUK around christmas converning the R50 auto hub. I got the impression that they were aware of a demand for a high quality unit but hadn't the time to get involved with it due to other pressures such as the Vmax.

I have the new grips with thrust bearings on both my 50s, and the thrust bearing upgrade on my 90. Originally all 3 of my grips were the early versions without thrust bearings. However, both my 50s failed, where one actually threw a grip due to bearing separation, and my other 50 started developing notchness in the bearings so I returned them both to QUK. Unfortunately, these failures were the 1st reported of the QUK grips which basically resulted in pushing the requirement of thrust bearings to the fore. I have to congratulate QUK on their swift response and it was also fortunate that their grip design could facilitate the inclusion of a thrust bearing.

The funny thing is that I originally used the QUK grips as the bearings were believed to be superior to the TT ones I'd been using in the stock plastic grips. Up to this point I had never actually thrown a blade and went for the QUK grips to be sure it wouldn't happen. Unfortunately that is exactly what did happen very shortly afterwards.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Like you, I was less concerned about the QUK grips than the TT parts when it came to bearing separation, but it was still a small worry in the back of my mind. I have never had a grip bearing to separate as of today on either the QUK grips or TT. But now with the T/B's, that is one less worry sitting in the back of my mind.

Sometimes in the quest to improve things, we all take steps backward, BUT, look what it lead to.

If only QUK would now adress the auto hub problem, that would pretty much solve all raptor problems. I know the tail box looks pretty and is lighter than the stock plastic box, but the plastic tailbox was never a problem unlike the autohub. I'm currently using this beastie....

Which is working very well. I only had a lockup once when it was still bedding in, but now it never locks up and doesn't suffer any of the friction problems associated with the white gear.

This version does not lock up, either.

The key seems to be correctly supporting the tail gear on the sleeve so it can't flex (resulting in frication) and the support bushing whatnot has enough meat and fits the sleeve well so it cannot be distorted resulting in lockup. Even the minutest amount of distortion on the sleeve from the jesus bolt seems to inevitably result in lockups.

That's one of the reasons why there is no jesus bolt.

Peefor - in your design, Am I right in thinking the bell we see is a snug fit on the sleeve and within which is the standard one way bearing. Securing your bell and sleeve to the main shaft is done by a simple 3mm pin ?

Correct - the bearing is standard. The 'simple' pin is in fact a hardened one from a Fury, held in place by the same method too. The full sequence to make is in the gallery.
