I was a little disappointed at the "processed" quality of the pictures. Is it because of the method of compression or interference between the existing compression "jpg" and your method?

Your right. I process a lot of pictures and use one default compression setting. After looking at your photos that setting was to low. It is better if you send uncompressed photos and let me correct them before I compress and re-upload them.

Please not BMP. BMP can only be uploaded as ZIP files. Save or shoot your photos as JPG with a lower compression level. All photos in the CONTENT area were handled that way.

Well, The pictures I sent were straight from the Sony Camera at its lowest quality setting. Short of converting them to TIFF or GIFF what should I do?

Please re-upload them as is (jpg). Try using the highest quality setting also.

I will not apply anymore compression to them.

A lot of people in the net have been using spinwave's JPEG cruncher.
Go here and upload your BMP or JPG file. It will convert it into a very compressed JPG without loosing any appreciable quality.
I uploaded a 1.3 Meg BMP and got back a 18K JPG that's 92.7% compression!
Once you see the page with the results just pick the one you like and right-click and select "Save Picture As..."

A word of caution for those who upload raw jpg from digital camera.

Often what I saw were, when people uploaded photos from raw digital camera file.

1. Huge Images. - can be annoying for people with slow connection and small screen resolution - non issue for me though

2. Some images too dark - Difficult to make out what the heck those were.. - more work for Mark or anyone who knows how to brighten up the photos to show the details.

Can Mark suggest a reasonable width or height in pixel for photos? I understand large photos can show more details especially for scale heli enthusiast (non issue for me ) , just more consideration for other who are less fortunate.

Perhaps this issue should be addressed in posting etiquette?

A word of caution

Throw caution to the wind and give me your biggest darkest otherwise unaltered original digital photos. I will retouch, reduce and give you a surprising result.

Hey Guys,

Anyone in the Encino/Van Nuys area that can go pry Mark away from his computer and grab him and his helicopter for a flight on the weekend?

Seriously somebody has to get him out to get some sun.

Either that or we mount a D.O.S. (denial of service) attack on his site so he can't work on it woahahaha!

640x480 seems just about right. I seen some huge photo's. Probably 1600x1200. I use a program called Digital Camera Enhance 1.1 to clean up photo's. It's a freeware program available from download.com
I feel it works very nice.
