Synergy R/C Synergy N9 > First Synergy Flight = Crash!

Guys,

Maiden flight today over here in New Zealand. I had taken all of the gear out of my Raptor90, and transplanted it into the Synergy. That way, I knew the reliability of the gear, and the motor has been run-in and is ready to hoon. No more excuses.

Anyway, after a little bit of fiddling with the pitch & throttle curves, it had its first rock-steady hover. Not one single click of trim at all - I kid you not - I almost took my hands off the sticks to show the other guys how stable it was but didn't want to look like a complete idiot if I crashed it while doing that.

Anyway, I felt so confident and at-ease with it, that I immediately began my normal full-on 3D routine on its first flight! Very precise, and powerful collective.
It shows up every one of my mistakes though!

A long story short - while mucking around with the curves I had forgotten to restart the timer, and I ran it out of fuel. DOH!

The fuel magnet did its job fantastically - there was barely 5mls left in the tank and it didn't start to lean out (even though its not a pumped OS91SZ).
I did a good auto, but hit a rut (we fly in a farmers paddock) and it tipped over.
Damage is minimal - spindle & blade grip. Oh - I broke the G10 horizontal fin while I was bringing it back to the pits. Grrr...

Apart from that - I think this Synergy will be a blast to fly - and it looks bullet proof.

Cheers from NZ!

Bad luck Axeman, but sounds like you enjoyed it none the less, with very little damage at the end.
Hopefully if the weather holds, I shall take mine out for a spin today

Don't worrry Steve, I've run mine out of gas about five times (got to set that damn timer!) during all sorts of maneuvers, it sharpens your reflexes .

This is how mine looks after I pulled out of a tail slide just a nano second too late . I eventually landed it by doing a mini auto and waiting until the headspeed had died right off.

Bad luck Steve.
Glad you like it....can't wait till I get mine now.
Gonna get some parts as well....apart from the usual stuff that spins you or Si got any input as to what spares to carry?
Extras I was thinking of was tail gears (only done belts before) and a crown gear maybe, one frame halve (are they the same) couple of L gear struts, boom, boom supports and tail control rod. Any thing else that you would carry?

Axeman - I'm glad the damage wasn't too great.
Secret Squirrel - how's that thing fly with the improvised skid on the left?

The main frames are the same. The crown gear and tail gears are almost always required if you dig the tail in good enough. The main gear would not hurt also. Also a torque tube.
Do not forget the seesaw bearings in the flybar....(I almost always do ). Otherwise your list looks good.
Hope this is a little help,
Paul

The more stream lined effect of half a skid greatly improved flight performance! Landing performance was a little bit degraded though...

Here's what caused the 'single skid modification' to mine at the weekend...

This little incident reinforced how strong the tail fin is, as it dug up a good amount of dirt, yet its still intact.
