Synergy R/C Synergy N9 > Bell Crank Set Up

Hi, just finished my N9 and I have a question about the tail rotor bell crank position.

I have installed the tail rotor control rod as per the manual and T/R bell crank is not in the centre of the T/R shaft, there seems to be too much pitch in one dirextion.

Does anyone have a picture of how the set up should look when the T/R servo os centred?

Cheers

Just center your servo and adjust your links so everything is 90deg., start at your servo and work your way back. That applies to everything.

don't get too worried about perfection here yet. You can fly that out.

Just set the radio into rate mode and leave Heading hold off at this stage. The servo will be centered. The horn should be selected and fitted so it is vertical. 90 degrees on the tail rotor transfer horn. Do not use subtrim or any kind of trim. (sorry if you know this already but it says new heliman)

Set up the leading edge of the tail rotor blades to oppose torque. (ie about 6 degrees to start with against the torque)

Lift it off ground into the hover and rudder trim it to see how much you need to adjust it by. Change the rear link as required to fly hands off at zero trim. Once it flies hands off at zero trim you have the linkages in their perfect places. ( do a bit of measuring at this point and almost never have too worry about set up again)

Set up your max throws each way. Set her up into heading hold mode and fly. heading hold mode doesn't care about setup as long as you don't overdrive the linkage and as long as you switch on in heading hold mode to initiate centre. Obviously max throw is important too. Only reason to do it this way is that you can switch to rate mode if req and no trim required.

I never bother with measurements here as long as it's close enough to fly even if you have to hold half rudder to keep it straight. Remember if you want to adjust the tail if it's out move the leading edge of the blades in the direction you are holding the stick.

Sorry if ya know all this already but trying to nail a set position at the build may still require you to flight adjust this anyway so just another way of looking at it.

Daddiesyacht is kind of right, but this is what I would do different.

If you're using a 601, put the gyro onto the limit menu (this will disable heading hold). Adjust the linkages until the LmtA and LmtB values are the same and are reaching the full reach of the rudder linkage.

Adjust the linkages so that both limit values are 120% or above.

That's it.

The reason why you DON'T need to do the in flight trimming is that the GY series gyros just don't care about that. They just want to know where the rudder end points are and they will position the servo so that the tail holds.

Why triming while hovering won't work is because the amount of rudder required depends on too many variables such as pitch, headspeed etc, plus, you're just wasting your time cause the GY series gyro just doesn't care anyway.

There's a reason why the GY401 just has an overall "limit" value rather than an independant Left and Right, it's because the gyro only wants to know the total amount of movement.

Hope this helps.

Si

I do it in this way
tail servo horn I mount some degree before 90° in direction of the servo tray,to have maximum speed and way for steering out the torque from the main rotor under load,
the 110-225Tail Offset Bell Crank is then at 90°and the 115-111Tail Control Tube Carbon I set at the legth that the tail blades have 1,5cm distance on the top, if you fold them both in one direction and they making a V.
To get the right direction I put the tail blade grips horizontal and the right blade has to be moved in direction from me away and the left one to me, thats all.

Hey Si. won't you need to trim it if you intended to ever run in rate mode?

If you intend using rate mode you should adjust your
linkage in normal gyro mode so it says straight in the hover.
After doing this restart system and it will work in both modes fine.
