New & Emerging R/C Helicopters > The Pegasus Heli.......... "WOW"

On Saturday, we decided to get together and do a little flying... (5 pilots)
And we had talked about bringing our Pegasus heli's along so we could see how each was coming along with them and compare different set ups...
Well, take a look at the picture and you will see that we showed up LOADED FOR BEAR and were ready to fly....19 heli's with 5 pilots.... we all commented on being to heli events that didn't have this many machines.....
The wind also decided to join us and we had gusts to about 25 knots... (that's even a lot in MPH!!! Trust Me!!!!)
Well, we were there and the rules are if you show up you fly.... and FLY WE DID.....and the Pegasus is the one that got the most fuel!!!! It was the heli of choice for the day, even though everything in the picture flew at least one time, but most several more, and it was great... BUT the big news is the way the Pegasus came away.... a few test flights and some comparing of notes, and these little beauties were ALL OVER THE PLACE.... loops, rolls, inverted, piro's (at a speed that was hard to believe and I was the one doing them with mine!!!! Looked as though Pete was getting his there too, and only on the second tank of fuel!!!!(show-off!!!)) and in this kind of a "breeze"... most would not have even tried to fly....This is no longer the mild mannered, learn to fly heli that it was being talked about as.... Out of the box, this heli will teach you how to fly and do it very well and without breaking the bank... but by making a few minor mechanical changes, some glass blades (and we tried 3-4 different types, lengths, and thickness's)and the new found SECRET tail blades.... this baby came to life....
You are going to want to be watching at the Rochester event coming up, and if we can swing it at OC Bob's event... plus there will be some video's posted on the web site soon.... you gotta see these babies go now.... and again, the only changes made were mechanical linkage adjustments and blades.... you have to look at this heli....
Needless to say.... it was a GREAT DAY.... Stan

Stans got his pegasus dialed in. I can't wait till I get mine there. That little .18 likes to sing, so keep the rotor head up to a healthy 1900-1950 rpm if you're gonna do aerobatics. My head speed was only around 1750 and it the engine wasn't in its powerband yet. (or broken in yet for that matter.) That was a great time yesterday Stan, and it was great finally meeting doorman in person.

My favorite heli's of the day were the scale ones. Stans Hirobo JetRanger, Dick Dils Hirobo Huey, and Shooters Hirobo Bell 47. These guys know how to make nice slow flat turns and nice ground effect take off runs... stuff that really does fool the eye into thinking its the real thing. Anyone can pick it up and fly it like a sport model.. but these guys make it look good. I think I want to try a scale heli after seeing all them go yesterday. Nice change of pace. I can take it to the scale fly-ins that my club runs. They shut the whole field down twice a year all weekend long for scale only fly ins that about 6 people show up for. Drives me crazy! Besides, there were 5 guys, 19 heli's and I only brought 3 of them. I've got some catching up to do!.

p.s. The secret tail blades may or may not come off of a JR Electric Voyager. Boy do they wake up the Pegasus! They are short and stiff and won't bog the motor.

One more thing... because of the 12/1 gear ration, and the high pitched sound of the .18, you'll probably need to tach the head to get it up to 1900rpm accurately. I thought mine was screaming.. but it was just the high pitched .18 fooling my ears. I only had 1750 head speed. the .18 is ported like a car motor... so it really wants to rev to make good power. So scream it if you need the power.

Yes it was a FUN day. Good guys, good helis and a good day. Can't get any better than that.
Nice meeting Doorman. He is a real asset to heli flying and knows what it's about. Having a good time and enjoying a day out with friends.
Watching my son Pete fly is making me feel a little over the hill.
He is realy getting into that 3D flying.
We all brought our pick of helis but we ALL had our Pegasus with us. They have come a long way with just some set up changes. I had my Peg set up at 2000rpm but slowed it down. Stan's is running close to that and flying realy nice. I think I may be changing back.

District 1 Fun Fly in CT....

I hear that there "might" be a group of Pegasus fliers dropping in on this event this coming weekend... so you had better be looking for "us" if you are in the area!!!!!.....

Districe 1 event

The word is out, someone has seen a sneak shot of the new Pegasus canopies (painted versions) they say they have matched tail booms and fins, carbon fiber in Ice Blue and silver. Black and also G 10 fins.

The word on the street is there doing flips front to back and back to front, rolls, loops, and inverted hold and circuts.

The one I saw was doing autos, not bad for a 2.25 D helicopter for under $380.00.

Check out the web site www.pegasushelisusa.com.

find the dealer closest to you, there even offering free shipping until Jan 1st 2007.

I guess you could just email Stan, he know's best!!!!!!!!!!!

District 1 and The Pegasus.....

Well, if you were there you got to see this fantastic little heli doing some really incredible things, in the hands of the pilots that know how to do this "stuff".....
I have been working on my Pegasus using only the stock linkage to see if we could get it to do some of the "3D" type flying.... so with a little twist here and a turn there this little heli is doing loops, flips, rolls, piro's, inverted circuits, funnel's, backwards flight, and even auto's..... this from a machine that is advertised as a beginner heli that will teach you to hover and FF....
Well, we have just extended the flight envelope a bit....
Watch for some video of this all going on later this week when the rest of the "gang" gets home and loads them up....
This is a fun little heli in the stock configuration, but now it is just amazing.... don't get me wrong, this is not an over powered rocket, but if you can do the above maneuvers, so can this little beauty!!!!!
For the $$$'s I have not seen a better value out there....and don't forget one other thing.. it does not require digital servo's or a high priced gyro to get going either!!!!
We had a lot of fun this weekend, and will be continuing to dial these little guys in.....

Hi Stan Thanks for the report on the CT fun fly. I could not make it. I see you have the Pegasus working well. I can't wait to see the video. Ron didn't tell me you were doing that.
I didn't get to see the new paint jobs. Things just happen fast with the Pegasus helis. I will just have to keep on my toes.
Hope to see you at the next fun fly.

Nice little heli.
Does anyone have any close up pics of there setups?
I'm wondering what servos are used?
Are there any CNC parts, cant really find much info on the web page?
Is it a pull start motor, or shaft started?

Thanks

Info !!!!

Hi Guy's,

Yes, I do have mine doing some pretty amazing things for it's size...
I can supply you with pictures of my set up if you supply me (PM) a regular email address....
The new painted canopies are GREAT looking too.... I still have to trim mine a bit, but it looks NICE......
I am using JR DS811 sport digital servos on mine except for the tail and there I have an older 4735 coreless (little faster) with a CSM LW 200 HL gyro.... but just standard servos are all that is needed since there are 3 working the swash... I would stay with a BB servo though just for a bit more accuracy/centering... and that is just my own preference....
I will try to get a couple of shots up on this post a little later today or this evening also...

I've been looking for a nice small nitro bird.
Have looked at the pegasus, blackhawk GP/Shogun 450 IC, and the quickie 18 and 25.

Still comparing features and setups, so any info is appreciated
