I think your bed was indeed calling you..

The 400/4200kv with a 12t would = 3108 - (180/12)=15

I wondered why in the world the larger motor would need a larger pinion and checked the math myself.

oh yea well spotted thanks, typo sorry . Edited post.
Meant to be 12T for both but I think the bit about efficient current handling is true. There's probably a really clever and technical why to phrase it, simpler the better.

Just keeping everyone on their toes

Do you have the ordering number for the correct pinion or maybe have one in your inventory you can sell me?

Did you come up with a suitable motor and pinion size to match? I scrolled through looking for what pinion you need but all I seen was the 2 motors that required 35t and 45t pinions.

well i was hoping to use the park 370 but ill buy a new motor if needed .what ever you suggest .

I'm using the Twister(EM-300/20)/MS-116 combo and very happy with it.

I use the 25t pinion with the stock main gear or the 12t pinion with the Duzi main gear and am really comfortable with those head speeds.

The Tsunami(MCP320) motor looks good to me too as I believe that's what Eric Larson is using w/25t pinion and MS-116 esc.

i havent put together my X3d yet...in fact i never even flown a true micro before unless a SABRE/BCP counts. can i expect Trex SE or even XL precision?

anyhow this is my setup:

Tsunami + 25T
phoenix10
parkbec6v
MSComp HH gyro
HS56 for cyclic - i just dont like the lack of smoothness on the nylon geared hs50/55/or even those futaba 3110's. i thought of using HS65's or DS285 digital's but ill probably save that for the trex.

HS81 on the tail - i know it's heavy...but i seriously dont trust the hs50. i thought about using a hs56, but this works so well on a mini for an $11 servo...

950mah 25C 3s

im not too concerned about "ballistic performance". i want a micro that "flies nice".

if i like this thing. ill probably upgrade the swashplate and bracket. those appear to me as the sloppiest part of the stock setup.

Futaba 3110s all round would make more sense. 56s might be too large for good CCPM geometry layout, even if you cut the tabs off (not sure?).

> 950mah 25C 3s
Might have centre of gravity issues (depending on the weight of the tail servo), with a HS-50 on the tail the heli balances out with a packs in the range 80-90g. Normally ends up around 350-360g all up. Above 370g and the hard hungry 3D moves will suffer. Let us know the AUW weight when you finish building.

> sloppiest part of the stock setup
I have found a little slop also but it's not a problem worth worrying about. Flown stock plastic for over a year before any ali head/grips were added, recently up to 3K rpm where the ali is more sensible.

> i want a micro that "flies nice".
If sharp an direct = flying nice then you should be ok (with a fist full of adrenaline, often a handful). Program lots of expo for first flights. The setup can be tricky to dial in, isolating and fixing any vibes can frustrate (causing wag). Crashing? you just don't wana go there too often.

update:

build was a nice one....this heli is DEFINITELY not crash friendly. i think 1 minor crash and it'll be close to totalled. i hate the super tight tolerances on the mainshaft, i tried to file and grind it down, but it was so tight i had to press things. particularly putting the mainshaft into the frame and slipping the 1 way hub onto the mainshaft...

largest gripe is the a/r bracket. that thing is sooo weak...i knew i was going to have problems with this. in fact i dont even think it should be straight. it should be swept backwards otherwise the outside (hiller?) linkages will hit it in higher spectrum of positive pitch.

another issue that needs to be addressed. i decided to put an HS56 on the tail. im running a 6v bec. this thing has so much torq that it is bending the tail fin and causing the tail slider to have imprecise centering....ummmm what to do???? other than that, i believe the tail should work very well. good thing i CAed and gorilla glued the Vfin otherwise it would snap for sure. i dialed down the slider travel but it still does it a little bit (worrying me). i KNOW how to setup a tail or at least a trex XL/SE so im not out of ideas yet.

electronics mounting is a nightmare. there is no real estate on this model and i thought the trex was bad.

due to the frustrations i am having wit this thing, the new setup might be a standard rate gyro, hs55 on the cyclic. until it proves it is worthy of better equipment otherwise...

btw the MCP320 (appears to be an AXI goldline) is very powerful...

Don't know what happened there, sounds like a Friday afternoon factory issue.

> so much torq that it is bending the tail fin and

I haven't heard anyone use a HS56 successfully on the tail. It requires a quick response servo like HS-50 or maybe a Futaba s3110. If you have any binding, try reducing the limit pot on the gyro. The tail servo doesn't have to carry any high loading if the limit and neutral centre point is setup correctly.

> a/r bracket. that thing is sooo weak
Just glue it somewhere useful and remember to avoid holding or gripping that area of the heli. In flight there is very little load on this component.

Yes but it is half the weight of a Trex.

> standard rate gyro
Should be ok for hovering, will drift if you don't get the REVO mix dialled in.

whoa...i discovered why it wasnt centering properly.

the servo was able to pull the shaft and unseat the tail rotor shaft - yikes!

i know the instructions and build threads might be against this but i just CAed the shaft to the conical gear. problem appears to be fixed and im finally getting the precision that im looking for.

if anyone plans on building one of these, glue the Antirotation pin in LAST even though it is probably the very 1st step.

Just getting to hooking up the servos. Anyone know why these hs 55 are a bit jumpy? ill give it some cyclic to test them and they pause for a sec then jump into position. not all the time just some of the time.im recharging battery to see if that may be the problem but there is no way it can flown like this.

Not normal, sounds like a radio issue (bad/wrong crystals, wrong Tx shift setting, poor antenna routing on the heli) or a BEC problem. You must identify and fix this problem before getting off the ground.

already wiped it out. dont know what happened i was just testing the itwhile spoolup it seemed like it was slipping in the oneway but dont think that is what was happening then it just blasted apart in the head. welp time to place orders
