I have gone thru the posts and need some info. I have a Sullivan Dynatron that I run off a 12 volt field battery. If I want to make it portable, what are my options - specifically. I see Tower Hobbies has the Power Pac for $30. If I buy that, what batteries specifically do I need? Is there some special setup that I'll have to do to make it work? It looks like I would put 2 packs of 6 cell batterys in it, but then how is it all wired?

Is there another way to go?

Thanks,
Dan

I use 2- 6 cell 1500mah car packs wires in series to give me 14.4 volts. It works very well and will last a couple of weeks of flying. It is pretty cheap. I charge one at a time because I only have a OLD car charger.
All it cost me to set it up was the wiring connectors due to the fact I had the packs and charger

I'd recommend a pair of 7 or maybe even 8
cell packs. You can get fairly inexpensive
car packs in this configuration and figure out
some way to attach them to the Dynatron

Thanks!

Don't use on of those power packs on a dynatron. They are OK on regular starters and 61 or less engines only. The high current kills the batters quickly. I know by experience.

The 2 6 or 7 cell Nicd packs works very well. I use a regular Hangar 9 starter and 2 7cell 1800 mAh packs and it starts my 80 with real authority.

Okay - so do I go to Wal Mart and buy a lawn battery? Any suggestions on specific batterys to buy - numbers, brand, etc.

Thanks,

I use the sullivan starter pack on mine and i've been pleased with it. it uses loose nicad cells you purchase seperatly. Ron also is showing a battery mounting system for the car packs (like you see on the hobiccos) that will work. Its a bit more but it would be nice to have.

If I were doing mine over again, I'd probably go with the car pack option and at least 6 cells per pack, probably 7. you want 14.4 volts or more. i think they made this thing power hungry. I've never tried it at 24v but it would be interesting.

Good Luck,
