I would like to know how well the hornet handles compared to a trex. And does it take alot of upgrades to get it right? I havent had to much luck with the HB cp ( not the 3d pro )Does it handle better than the pro right out of the box?

I have the Trex 450Xl and a Hornet 2. The Trex is easier to build and smother flying than the Hornet. Both fly good without upgrades out of the box. The Trex is also a lot cheaper.

What was the problems with the HB CP?

I had a hornet H2 and it flew great. Flies just as good as my trex. Bling parts doesn't really make it fly better. It was just for looks. I heard the newer hornet X3D was better than the H2 with a lil more upgrades too.
My hornet wasn't 3D hungry like my rex but maybe with a different power setup it could of been.

I flown my buddies century 3d pro and I can say the hornet was better out the box. Just parts for the hornet cost a lil too much.

Must have more POWER!

I feel we're comparing ables and oranges here. True, a Trex may be preferred due to it's larger size but the Hornet is a fantastic flyer and a little lost due to Trex mania.

I recently picked up a another Hornet. This time it was the X3D kit since they have recently reduced their pricing. I purchased the original H2 and admit it being somewhat of a tedious build for a first timer but none the less a learning experience MS has made many improvements since then, such as heavier rotor blades, fuselage differences, ballraced tail grips, Bell Hiller mixer, auto-rotation main gear and the swash is pressed with a brass bushing. They are also now selling the X3d kit for $105.00 dollars! mscomposit.com also has plans to introduce a couple new versions. An ARF in either the standard kit version or the new Pro Version (also in kit form) which includes all metal upgrades. I remember see very attractive prices for this version.

I'd would like to see MS make a few improvments to the base kit such as including the upgraded swash that is included in the new Eurocopter kit, and incorporate a new servo placement such as CCPM servo mounts designed by DUZI. Otherwise it's a great micro.

I wish the mast was a bit taller to accommodate a BCP style servo configuration/mounting. I use the Duzi mounts for stiffness over the flexy stock mounts but they don't give as good geometry having to space the servos apart and lowered down around the frame to fit under the short mast/anti-rotation like they do.

Still flies great though - Theres just still room for more improvement IMO.

Thanx Capt Chaos
I went ahead and purchased the X3D from ms . seems like a good deal for 149 bucks with the metal rotor head included . I have all electronics i think . Would a CC 35 be too much for the 350 outrunner ? And what servos are recommended i have hs 56 ?
hope this bird handles better than a hb 3d.

I'm not sure you can have too much ESC other than weight & size-wise.
(I'm using a quark33 with 370/400 on my BCP - It's just what I had laying around sorta)

Pretty sure the HS-56s won't fit properly on the stock servo plate - I'm using them with Duzi mounts in a creative fashion - I recommend HS-55s for the swash and either HS-50 or JR SM8 with slop mod for the tail.

Futaba recently released a new micro servo, the s3110. Looks like a fantastic servo. I run s3108's in my H2. I prefer them to the 55's and I plan to purchase the 3110's for my X3D.

If you purchased the X3D kit version, take your time and be sure to dynamically balance both the head and tail rotor. You'll have a smooth running little machine.

The pics I have are in my gallery - But they are very blurry - The pics show my Duzi servo mounts in my creative configuration but now sport HS-56s instead of the HS-55s with spacers - First pic is most recent and sports almost every Duzi upgrade available (notice Duzi main gear and swapped motor/battery locations) and the microHeli tail set and KoK main blades - Only thing different now is I'm using my DX6 radio so there is no visable/external antenna wire.

The black blades are KoK composite 257s I get from Modefo's for $42.90 for blacks and $44.90 for whites - The white blades are Walt's which I don't even know if they're still available - Tail blades are MS carbons.

I'm a fan of the Furys - Flew one of my friend's once breifly - He converted them to Stratus' and was dissappointed - Sold them both and bought raptor 90SEs - I sure miss watching those smooth performers.

getting everything right on them tempest is a pain in the arse and time consuming but the finished product gives a very stable machine ( providing it s done right ) but a big investment. i love to fly them but scared to see 1 go in for a crash . so its hard for me to break them out to fly . i havent wrecked 1 yet . but the front sceadu has had many a mishaps ( poor thing ) i cant count how many rebuilds its went through.
