I just sent the e-mail. I hope they resolve this soon. I spent the last 3 days building my kit, and would like to fly it asap.

I dremeled off the area on the fan hub beneath the clutch shoes....mine bites at a sensible RPM now.

Des much the same as having a shim in there. The Quick UK rappy 90 ones also have a flat to clear the shoes.

That problem is old school from the Raptor series,, put a shim under the clutch or file the sides down on the fan hub.

"How are you sperding the shoes on the clutch?"

thenewguy,

Do not try to spread the clutch shoes or you will break them off. Been there done that.

If your clutch takes a lot of rpm to engage suggest you contact Todd via email and ask for a replacement.

Hey Guys,

I have not got my Synergy Yet, waiting on next Shipment!"! DOH!!

A buddy of mine has recently got his flying and so far it's an awesome machine but we have noticed the high Rpm clutch engagement, from past experiance we are thinking that this is similiar to the early raptor series where the clutch mated directly with the fan hub surface which caused friction between the clutch shoes and the fan hub, this is why it's taking the high Rpm's for the clutch to engage.

What i'm thinking about doing if this is the cause when i get my kit is to utilise a similiar shim to that used in the Raptor kits or maybe use M4 Shim washer's say about 0.02mm - 0.04mm in thickness on the bolts that secure the clutch between it and the hub.

This would raise the clutch up a smidgin to allow the clutch shoes to move without any friction.

I maybe wrong as i've not got the kit yet and seen how the parts fit together, but's it just an idea from reading these posts and past experiance.

Thanks!

I did not spread the clutch shoes. My buddy pm'ed me and told me not to. I just put it back together and went to the field. Getting everything dialed in slowly. It does have a high rpm engagement. Seems to be getting better with each flight. If you come up with a good solution. Let me know. I must say that all my other heli's have no comparison. Looking forward to the tweaking, and making her fly awesome.

The clutches have been over hardened by the manufacture so the shoes don't engage until a higher rpm is reached. The clutches are fine in the air as your engine speed will vary from 7500 to 15000 rpm as you fly, well beyond the point where the clutch starts to engage, say 1000 rpm. I have one of these high rpm clutches and have more that 50 flights with no issues in the air. I just move the throttle stick to mid and let the rotor rpm come up to full speed before lifting off.

Not all clutches have this problem so if you do find yours engaging at high rpm then contact Todd (at Synergy RC) and have it replaced.

I just got done installing the clutch and noticed lines in the hub were I bolted it down, telling me that in theory the the clutch would hang up causing a late clutch engagement. I took a file and SLOWLY filed away the coating to expose the bare aluminum. I also beveled the edges on the clutch shoes on the bottom to help when the RPM slows. I have .0015 gap between the bottom of the clutch shoes and the hub after I tighten the clutch to the hub. I think this will help but only a flight test will tell. I am still waiting on a new main-shaft and main gear to replace my warped and bent ones so I will not be flying soon I hope the info helps. I still had .0005 run-out on the tip of the clutch shaft after the mod. Take it easy.
