Just cut a part on a Flow and I noticed a small blemish.

The lead in lead outs are visible on the part and actually cause my small holes to become slightly oval. Is this a common trait to most AWJ? Is there an adjustment I overlooked?

The top is the original stamped piece. The bottom is my lightened version.

Your feed could be too fast or the post processor you are using to make the program doesn't give the good code, waterjet is complex because you work with a "soft tool" the machine need to decelerate on each direction change to help the stream to be at 90 deg before starting in other direction.

If it's an older machine, backlash on axis could make some circle oval etc... Usually wj is an incredible precise process!!

Hope this help,
Alex

Is that Flow a belt machine or rack and pinion?

Usually, they are on ballscrews...

Actually in the WJ world the norm is to use rack and pinion or timing belts for motion control. You have to remember the application as a lot of these machines are used to cut countertops, signs, food, rubber and paper gaskets. You don't need a terribly accurate machine for that kind of work.

The WJ's that I sell are all ballscrew drive but the majority of the cheap ones are not. Flow is one of the least expensive units on the market although they aren't as cheap as Calypso and some others.

This is a programming issue, or the jet isn't adjusted properly or both. I would need to see the program to tell what is actually going on.

The machine we built here are with ballscrews, because of the high level of precision, rack and pinion or belt are used in the construction of our high defenition plasma table and sometimes on router where less precision ir required.

I personally never see a 100 000 $ machine cutting paper, but well, it's true that no precision is required!!

It all depends on what he has for motion control and how tight the machine is.

I sell Jet Edge out of Minnesota and since you are in the business you probably know of them.

I have customers using 150k WJ's cutting tomatoes, paper, rubber, metal gaskets and die retainers.

Even after slicing through this lead pipe!

Hi guys,

Didn't realize there was activity on this thread, till I found my mail box full of notifications

TM, the bridge is on ball screws.

Someone suggested that it could be a nozzle clump or an abrasive delivery problem.

I believe it could be a stack up of many issues. The machine has seen better days and isn't mantained properly.

Turn the abrasive down and do the maintenance on the pump and nozzle assembly. This will most likely help the cutting situation.
