Synergy R/C Synergy N9 > Fan Collet fit.

Will BVeteran - Location: Bicester, Near Oxford, UK. -
Guys,

could some of you who have already fitted your fan to your engine check to see wether yours looks like mine.

I'm concerned that the collet doesn't go all the way inside the fan.

If its meant to look like this then fine but on all the other heli's Ive built with a collet system the collet never sat proud like this. See pic.

Cheers, Will.

ummmm, there is something going on here.

this is the problem i'm having in my post synergy problems. still looking into a reason, nige has pm'd me and we are looking into whats casuing this, it looks like the top collet is slightly oversize on the engine shaft.

benben, have you dialed that fan???? it looks to be off, or is it the picture?

cheers

did you just force the thinner collet open and now use it on the engine? that thought had crossed my mind but i haven't tried it.

Hey raptorheli2

you've got me all worried about my fan now

BobJ or RealRaptor if your out there can you confirm whether any of the bottom fan collet should be visible once assembly is complete. A little of mine shows however when I dial indicated everything I appeared to only have 2 thou runout which I was happy with

Hi,

I'm stuck on this bit of the my build as well. My collet is showing too. I found that only one collet fitted better under the fan onto the engine shaft so used this one.

When I turn the fan/clutch assembly I can see the fan riding up and down.

Going to put it to one side and carry on with the build.

Would like to know whats the correct way of assembling this fan/starter shaft etc, so I can get the fan assembly turning true.

Simon.

The bottom fan collet does stick out a small amount, see below

The others are from new parts, top and bottom view, looks like a good fit, not over sized.

hope this helps

differrence between the twp collets

I have not received my kit yet, but how do you tell the difference between the top and bottom collets. They have different part numbers but look the same in the manual. Is is like the MA stratus set-up where the top has a recess in it. kinda a basic question but with the few problems people are having just want to make sure. Thanks.

one fits over the engine shaft and one doesn't, hard to get them mixed up unless you force the top collet onto the engine, it's not even close to fitting so you'll be ok.

For what it's worth, I've rarely come across a crank that is not everso slightly bent. I like to dial in well within a thou, and a bent crank makes this very awkward. Dialing the fan rim is usually OK, but the clutch mount end is a problem. My fix has been to slightly oversize one side of the crank bushing, do up the crank nut tight while applying sideways pressure on the fan. This seats the fan firmly on the collet and it can be checked for runout. If it's bad , do it again. If all is good, then remove crank nut and re fit with loctite. I hate fitting fans.

andy, thanks for the info. i'm going to pull the engine out again tomorrow and someone else is going to try and get it, he's an engineer so he can measure everything and see where the problem is. i'm past looking for it, swearing randomly at it is good enough for me now.

i'll let you know though and get some parts returned when i find the culprit.

cheers

Everyone,

what are your internal diameters of both bushes?

shaft is 7.95
fury collet is 7.96
synergy collet is 8.1mm.

Am i right in thinking that as the fan is compressed that the slot compresses and the collet turns into an oval?

Theres no chance of ever getting that centred
