Radio - Servo - Gyro - Gov - Batt > GV-1 Gurus?

I was hoping that someone could give me a clue about using the governor in idle-up1 mode.

I had my throttle setup to match my pitch curve before I installed the GV-1. (+10 to -4). I think the curve was 50,38,57,75,100.
So do I use this curve when using the governor? I belive the GV-1 will override the raido, but what about the idle, high and stop stick positions?

I just don't want the thing to go nutzo on me.
Thanks for any help.

GV-1

Yer mate these are another work of art produced by Futaba.
They are absolutly great when you get the hang of them but untill you do they tend to test you a bit.
I read my manual so often that the words have not just faded a bit they are hardly ledgable. However I think I've got these b******ds cornered.

Beware of the following:
1) If the throttel trim tab is set below 50% the GV-1 will shut down.
2) If the sensor is not getting a good reading the GV-1 will shut down
3) If the motor stops you will need to turn off the reciever and then turn it back on as it will not reactivate in othetr words the GV-1 will shut down.
4) If the engine RPM don't reach 70% if set RPM the GV-1 wont kick in.

There is 1 more reason why these things choose not to kick in but it has slipped my mind for now.
I set mine so the stick turned the GV-1 off and on this seemed to be the best way to get good control of the thing. I have a Futaba 8 UHP Super and I fond that if the throttle trim was set to low it knocked out the GV-1 this took me a while to work out as nothing was said in the manual.
Don't worry about it going nuts there are so many safty nets it's bloody hard to get it going. Once going they are good.

Good luck Petrol

Trim stuffing it up

Yer David I wonder if somehow stuffing with the trim setting on the radio knocked out the GV-1 limit setting's and thats why I had trouble with it not kicking in? Buggered if I know but it took an embarrising amount of time to sort out and the vaines in my tempel were starting to show bright blue and there were some extreamly loud uncontrolable out bursts of cursing going on.

Although I have fitted one of my machines with a GV1 I have not flown with the governor on.

I read a lot of things, 2 of them are contradicting.

1. Keep a linear throttle curve (I do even think this was the GV1 manual)
2. Keep your throttle curve close to what you are used to. Supposedly to be helpfull when GV1 is not active for one reason or another, so flying would be as you are used to it.

There are some sites hooking in to the GV1 setup.

Examples:

http://www.users.qwest.net/~jkrause/home/gv1.htm

My best guess is a fellow flyer with GV1 experience.

I hope this is of some use.

The gist of what both of what is trying to be gotten accrossed regarding throttle curves, is thus:

Make sure you have something, so that if the GV-1 fails, you can still land your machine without crashing.

You can use a linear curve, in your normal flight condition, and use a V curve in your idle-ups. If you so desire, you can also goto the trouble of setting up your curves so that they also run your engine at the desired head speed. What the point is trying to get accrossed is that if you're inverted 1 foot off the ground, and you throw a magnet, you don't want your heli to eat it because there weren't any settings.

GV-1

A few things....

I am using a GV-1 in two different models. One Scaler and a Minature Fury. The setup for each is a little different. I am assuming that this would be for a sport machine. I have noticed the following things on my sport setup:

I run a curve that is close to a regular throttle curve, not a linear curve like the book says and have had no problems. The trim lever has no effect as long as the throttle stick is above the engage point. I am using a arming switch to turn the GV-1 on and stick position to engage the governor. I also use a 2 position switch to change the governed RPM's. All of this works slick! Now for the clincher.....you will notice that when you fly extended 0 degree manuvers like on the backside of a really big loop your disk will unload and the GV-1 will continue to remove throttle input untill it gets to the max low position. The problem here is that when you start to grab some positive pitch and load the disk the engine is sitting at the low idle position so it will hickup when the carb gets slammed open to maintain RPM. The fix for this is to set your low point when setting up the GV-1 at the 1/4 stick position. Now the engine will only roll back to quater throttle and be ready to jump into service when you grab some collective. On Idle up I run a V curve as required. I just make sure my low point is above the stick engage position. With this setup I have ZERO problems....

Good Luck....

JR 347 and GV-1

Hello Guys,

I have noticed that you are quite advanced and I would like to ask you something about GV-1.

I have a JR 347 for flying my GPH346 with a CSM 400 gyro.

I purchased a GV1 and I would like to ask your help.

So, I have to spare channels AUX2 and Gear.
The Gear channel it could be activated by an individual switch.
The AUX2 channel can be assigned either to DR/Rudder switch or to Throttle hold switch (for example whenever you activate throttle hold for an AUTO the AUX2 channel is affected)

I have read in GV1 manual that I am able to set up it for a 2-position switch.

What's my plan, two options.

I plug the CSM lead to the Gear switch and I plug the GV-1 on off lead to AUX2 and the I use a Y-lead to plug the Speed Setting GV1 lead with the Gear channel ( I setup the HH mode with the highest RPM selection and the Normal mode with the normal flight selection).

What I have is, whenever I wish to change speed I do it through the gear channel and I have HH mode for 3D (High RPM). Whenever, I wish to cut off GV1 I activate the DR/R switch.

So, three ??? came up now.

1. What's the lowest ATV settings range that it will be needed by GV1 to change Speed settings? (e.g. If the CSM modes, in Gear channel, are assigned for the following ATV prices -30, +30, will the GV1 will change speeds whenever I change the position of the switch? In the meantime the same will be valid for using AUX2 for ON-OFF.

2. If I assign the AUX2 to the Throttle Hold swith I will be able to automatically switch the GV-1 off whenever I practice AUTOs BUT form the other side I will have to fly all the time with the GV-1 on. If I assign the switch to the DR/R, everytime I want to get practised in autos I will have to deactivate GV-1 and then to activate HOLD switch. Suppose that I assign it to the HOLD switch and in accordance with your experience, can I fly with GV1 on all the time?

3. Suppose that I select to fly always with GV-1 on, how I can set up the throttle stick to deal with the GV-1 on - off? And if yes, what will happen if I fly 3d and for the same stick position GV-1 goes off?
(This ? comes out, because I can't understant throttle stick on-off works for GV-1)

Thank you in advance for your reply Tsindilas Ioakeim
