I am starting this new thread to invite any and all Cen-Tex heli pilots to come join HCAM. We are in the Austin area, located south just off of Slaughter Lane. Now some of you may have seen or heard about some "disagreements". I feel that when any organazation is having a growth spurt those things are bound to happen. But what really matters is that they be handled with care, and they are. Please don't let any previous "rumours" or even past experiences discourage you from joining as the club is improving and making changes, for the better, as I type.


HCAM is a beautiful field located in a City of Austin park. Surrounded by low lying trees it offers a great view with some really great flying! You can read more about it right here:

This is not just a "call out" for heli pilots only. If you've got a plane/s then come on down and join our club! IF you want to learn to fly, be it heli's or planes, the members at this club will accomodate you. We have an ever expanding, great group of heli pilots and an established crew of airplane pilots.

Sounds like the heli pilots had a great time at the FF and are joining the club, I wish I had make it down to the field that day.

I may join after the next HCAM Heli Fun Fly if you can pull it off.

Membership

Sub (and all),

I just renewed my AMA membership (it lapsed 10 years ago, but I am able to keep my same number) and I have downloaded the membership form for the HCAM club. I will fill it out and send a check tonight.

I built and flew a number of fixed-wing aircraft when I was involved in the hobby 10 years ago, and also had a Schluter Champion and Hirobo Shuttle, neither of which I could fly beyond a hover. I sold everything in 1996 when I left Florida.

Lately, I have been building an outdoor G-scale r/c railway at my house in Dripping Springs, but got caught by the helicopter bug again a few weeks ago when I decided to buy a Lepton. Although, I think I'd be more interested in scale than 3D. I haven't started building yet - because I have been waiting for the various radio and heli gear. The final piece of the puzzle, a Futaba 9CH Super Synth, will arrive early next week.

I have a G2 Flight Sim and an Hirobo XRB to practice with, but I could sure use some flight instruction and set-up help from you folks, after I get the Lepton built. I have downloaded all the build videos from youknowwhere.com, so I already have a leg up on the build.

Phil,
Why not join now? This club is truely making an effort to turn things around and make it better for everyone so why not step up and show your support, get involved and lend a hand? Would love to see you join up with us and come flying and meet the members etc. If there is anything I can do to help get the ball rolling please let me know.

Wow, a Hirobo Lepton! Cool, can't wait to see that bad boy. I appreciate you stepping up and join the field Steve. There are some great guys there and we will help you get that Hirobo set up and in the air. You got several guys there that are great at setup etc. Javier(Defiant) is a Hirobo rep, Mike(RCTaz) is a Quick UK rep, Kevin K. is just a super helpful guy and will help get you going too. And all of em fly very very well. Not to mention several others who can help you as well. And I, well I don't know much but I'll still try!

Man, back in like 1989 or 90 I had a Schluter Helistar! I loved that heli. Those were the days.............

I'm having fun flying at the Target Field that is only 5 minutes from me, ACRA field 15 minutes drive and the now hostle HCAM field is the furthest away. I may still join but I need to get my Orbit charger back from repairs to charge up the 32 cell battery packs for my Joker Heli.

No problem, I understand how you feel. A Joker huh? Man, that must be some heli! May have to pop on up to the Target field sometime, would love to see that baby fly!

For the most part the meeting went pretty well. They are talking about rearranging the south end of the field into a large "box" for training, 3D'ing etc. Would be a good thing as if we wanted to rip it up we can do it there or if we wanted to "fly the pattern" we would be able to do it off of the main runway. I have to admit, they are making an effort to accomodate helicopters! Right now they are checking with the AMA to make sure they would be in compliance if they did do this rearrangement. I'll keep ya'll posted.

I would suggest or invite the fixedwings to do their 3d'ing down in the box as well. Encourage both groups to play by the rules.

I honestly don't think they are doing this to push us out of the way or anything like that. It gives us, the heli pilots a place to wring it out without getting in the way of the airplane pilots, or heli pilots just wanting to cruise around and fly the pattern. I don't want to stir the pot anymore, I think I've done enough of that. Besides, I'm sure if an airplane pilot wants to wring it out he too can come down there, or I would imagine so anyway. Their making an effort so I'm doing the same.

I'll come down to the HCAM field in a few weeks. This Saturday I know I can't make it and I won't have my second charger until early next week. I'm also thinking about getting a larger plane and will need a place to fly so I'll be visiting the HCAM & ARCA fields to fly it. There is a long concrete curb at the Target field that doesn't leave room less than perfect landings.

Thanks for the offers for help. I'll let you know how the Lepton build is coming along.
Also wanted to let you know that my AMA membership has gone through (I got to keep my old number), and I'm just waiting for word back from HCAM that they've reveived my check and application.

Just asking to get the status if anything new... has the HCAM club formally or informally given any word on their furture helicopter rules or guidelines or such?

There was mention of, a meeting at the field last Sunday, and some talk of establishing a helicopter flying area or a 3D/Stunt flying area or such. So just wondering if any word on what they are gonna say / write in for flying guidelines?
