Avant Aurora - EFX - FX > Avant programmable head problems

Hi all, i just got the avant head, and I have having major issues getting the snap rings into their spots. I am using the 90 durometer dampers, so I was wondering if I need to take out any shims or something, this is very frustrating. Thanks,
Eric

DOn't suppose you could share your method. I find it hard work getting the clips in place.

Assemble one side first then pass it thru the yoke, then use the other blade holder to seat the circlip in its groove.

Well, the problem with mine was, the 2 90 duro orings in each side were so hard, that with the 2 shims between them and the snap ring, the o rings didn't flex enough to seat the clip. I just took out 1 shim on each side and it's fine. The 90 duro's are so hard it's not going to matter anyway. Got the heli fully set up today, and it's sweet looking on the ground. If my motor wasn't burned up, I'd be testing it today, o well, parts come in monday.

I don't like pushing the other grip on to seat the circlip. With the stock set-up, I had to place the head vertically on the ground & use nearly my full body weight to push the clip into place. It's not good for the bearings at the end of the grips. Plus would need to take the head off to change o-rings which sucks.

Had trouble getting them in place the first few times as the silcone tubing in the middle turned out to be too long preventing the o-rings from seating all the way. It took too much effort to get the tubing on & off, especially for changing o-rings, so I threw it away. It made the head too stiff for me anyway.

I cut a 34mm piece of brass tubing that slides over the spindle then insert the spindle bolt & washer. It takes little effort to screw down the tube which pushes the clip in place. Easily done on the bench, takes a couple of minutes to change o-rings.

The same method is used for Fury heads (their tubes are too short for Prog Heads.)

Be sure to use circlip pliers to remove clips, it makes life easier!

You da man.....
I just love a simple and elegant engineering type of solution. I am off the hardware shop to find some tubing.
Thankyou

PS I don't suppose you lose too many days flying due to rain in your part of the world. Hear its been pretty dry lately.....

No worries Stuart-San.

You had to mention the rain! It's been raining this week & forecast to carry on next week.

Before you said the magic word, it was dry for months! Please take it back.

Seriously, we're in a drought that has been going on for years. We're under water restrictions such as no hosing of driveways, paths etc. Nor filling up new pools I think. No hosing of cars, have to use buckets.

If it rains, it does so on the coast where their is green vegetation but not in the country where it's badly needed. Livestock & crops are suffering badly.

Enough about that, at least we can fly most of the time. Winter sucks though, gets dark at 5pm.

Cheers,

Kevin-San.

Where fo you fly out of Sydney? I keep a car there, and come down every few months for a sanity break. If you can supply directions and what days of the week people fly there, I will come over next trip.
Probably won't bring a heli though, but I might......I have trouble fitting it in the car (see gallery)
Regards Stuart
PS, already been to the hardware shop, and made up circlip installing thingy....very pleased.

Its an aussie made PRB. Honeycomb aluminium monocoque fueselage. 220hp motor that revs to 9000rpm, 1100lb weight, brakes off a corvette, straight cut non-synco gearbox (stick throw is literally about 3/4", sticky race tires, no windscreen or cupholders (or doors, wipers or radio for that matter), limited slip diff etc
0-60 under 4 secs. gets wheel pin in 3rd gear up to about 80mph if you are brutal with it. Rather scary in wet.
