e-JR Voyager E > Gyro mount on VE

Hi, maybe has been posted somewhere already, but scanning through VE webpages, some folks put the gyro just behind swashplate and tell, that this now works much better (than as foreseen by manual behind the motor). Anyone has experienced it ?

Mounting a gyro behind the main mast is a technique that has been used a lot with the VE. If you use a GY 240/401 it's almost a necessity as it gets the gyro away from all the electrical noise created by the motor annd esc. The easiest way I found to create a gyro mount for that area was to take one of the large futaba servo wheels, grind off the centerhub area (creates a flat mounting platform) then screw it to the back of the anti-rotation bracket with a couple self tapping screws. Work great and it's cheap!!

Thanks Ralph, so the reason for this is the electrical noise. I have got JR Gyro G490T, which I guess must be similar as the Futaba you described , so I definitely have to try that, and wonder if it's possible then to increase the Gyro sensitivity further, it's not very high now, in HH mode 77% without wagging (50-100% possible, where 50% is 0 sensitivity), having G810 super servo on it, that definitely could be higher.

Just wondering about what you describe the mounting plate, yes have one of those futaba ones, but it's round ?! Anyway anything will do, thanks for the hint !

A round Futaba servo wheel is what I used (20 something mm in diameter) then I used a dremel to grind off some of the excess.

Just a thought here, but I noticed you are using a full sized servo on the tail. If you are doing that for all the servos, you are handicapping the the VE badly. In it's stock form, the VE is already weighty and responds very well to any weight savings you can provide. A change to Mini servos (on the order of the Hitec HS 85's) will help a lot. The only issue there is the frame cutouts, but it's pretty easy to create a mount for the smaller servo.

Just my 2 cents worth, but it worked very well for me when I still had my VE flying.

Oh I see, yes I will check the futaba wheel.

Well, about the servos - only the tail is standard size, the CCPM is actually mini (JR DS 3401). Mini is of course still heavier than H85's, but on the other hand, they are precise and strong - good for CCPM.

Thanks much for the hints !

Xircom,

Wow...a very nice looking machine. I love the purple frames...are they the stock units for the brushless version.

Thanks ! No, they are actually from Quick Japan, as I live there - it's easy to get them just around the corner ... but they're heavy. Also the rest of the head, and parts of the tail are from Quick or K&S

Next project is Bell 230, as you know, this machine is heavy - probably will be never real 3D, so I go on scale instead

Very nice heli! Inspires me to get my VE functional again.

Is that the Blue Line in the background? That area looks very familiar to me...

Great pics man.

It is Rokugodote village, at Tamagawa (River) - take Keikyu line about 30 min from Shinagawa in Tokyo. Riversides are excellent to fly in Japan, as nobody wants to put any building there - terrifyied from being flooded once every 2-3 yrs. Leaves unusual lot of space rest of the time

Yes! I used to stay at the Shinigawa Prince when I would visit Tokyo, right across the street from Shinigawa Station. Ahhh the good old days.

Anyway, thought it looked familiar. Thanks for sharing!
