I want to build a semi scale heli this winter but my problem is I don't know if I should wait for the new TT scale fuse or just go ahead and buy the Funkey longranger. If the TT fuse comes out it will be a exact fit ment for my heli and if I buy the longranger I will have to do some modification. Should I wait or buy now? Do you think the TT fuse will be of better quality? Would it be worth the wait. With my luck I would buy the funkey and two weeks later the TT would be available. Thanks.

TT is as about good as sticking to a target date as the reliability of the engine they were putting with the Raptor when it first came out. If I were you I'd go for the Century/Funkey fuse. You're right, you may have to do some mods to the wood work or do some yourself, but that's half the fun of doing a scaler is the work required and then seeing your hard labor take to flight.

what mods!?!?

I did a raptor/funky long ranger and did very few mods. There was only the 3/4" wood frame for the mechanics and the wood points for the custom landing gear. The only real mod was taking the extra material off the tail rotor housing where the vert fin sits so it can fit in the tail boom. Go to Mark McAlpine's sit and see how little work there really is to do. By the time you wait for the TT fuse's to come out you could be flying and practicing the 518 manuvers!!

waiting is a pain in the butt

like everyone sez, go for the funkey fuse. it will probably be less expensive anyway. i have seen a few rappys in the 46 size long ranger and they look cool!!!. as it was said, mods are half the fun.

Cutting Fiberglass

What tool should I use to cut the fiberglass on my Funkey long ranger? Can I use my dremmel with the cutting tool? Or is there a better method to avoid cracking the glass?

LOTS AND LOTS OF SPEED!!!!!!!!

Go really fast with the dremil, stand back and watch the windows fall out. along with your pocket book!!
I would use the dremil to get close, then use a fine file or sand paper to get it the rest of the way. Take your time and get it just the way you want the first time! Measure once, cut twice. DOH!! Measure twice, cut some what close, then wittle it down the rest of the way!!

If I decided to go out and buy a Raptor 60 who makes a good scale fit for this heli? Other than the Hughes 500 is there a jet ranger out there that will match? I will probably do the 50 that I have now but a 60 sure would be nice to. I like the size idea with allot more room to play with. If it takes me a couple years to play around it doesn' t matter I have the 30 & 50 to fly .

sizes

Most all the other long rangers out there are only a little longer that the funky 46. The real diference is in the tail length of the fuse. Most are really close to the size of the main body. I;ve done landing gear for several 60 size longrangers and they are not that much bigger. Unless you go to like the Vario gassers size of fuses. Thats where the big boys fly!!!

For cutting out the opening in my fuses I use a Dremel with a cutting wheel and a bit that is spiraled on the end. I get as close as I can without cutting more then halfway into my drawn pencil line and then I either file or sand the rest to the desired shape or size. I use different size drum sanders on my dremel for curves on window openings, landing gear bay openings, and vents/exhaust openings.

Will the Raptor 50 v2 fit in the Funkey 46/50 Long ranger if for some reason that I would have to?

Yep, that's what all of us Raptor Ranger builders are running; the R50 in the Funkey 46 Long Ranger fuselage. As Mike said, it's a great fit with a simple wooden tray to secure it to the fiberglass. You can get the original build details from Mark McAlpines site (http://www.geocities.com/markmcalpine/index.html) and some updates that we did on the last two (Airmed and Careflight) on The_Dave's site (www.rotorbreak.com). The tray mounting was identical but Dave had come up with several improvements on the fin and tail mounting.

I know that the Raptor50V1 will fit but I am wondering about the V2 version when it comes out. Or don't you think it will make a difference?

The overall size of the first and second versions of the Raptor 30 or 50 is the same so mounting it in the fuse shouldn't be an issue.
