Crashed? Discussion and Photos > My 1st crash today :/ GV1 failure ?

hey i got 2 gallon now in my rap30 so today after 2 tank i decided to attempt doing my 1st looping hehe.

Iam a beginner and my setup is quite simple: raptor 30 ,os 32, GY240, GV1 ,eclipse 7

I run 1500 rpm in normal and 1700 in idle1 ,i was quite comfortable with the heli and decided to try the loop, i make the heli climb a little then go Forward flight , level then pull elevator almost to full with adding collective to climb and go into the loop, all went good and when the heli was inverted i tried adding some negative pitch to help it not loosing too much heigh, once i did that and when the heli started to go out of inverted to finish the loop it suddently loose all power and almost went idle ,it went straight down fast and i managed to close the loop and get the heli level really close to ground !!

this one first loop it didnt crashed but the sudden loss of power frightened me !

i was thinking my GV1 put the engine to idle or reduced throttle alot i had almost no power in all the second loop half after in went inverted .

i was running idle1 with like 1700rpm and all was goo, i tested the heli before trying the loop to make sure my GV1 was keeping the throttle high when i go negative pitch ,by doing fast up and down climb.

When i was going down vertically the engine was not throttling down,at the first loop attempt when i wasz going down the gv1 was almost idling my engine and i had very slow descent .

Now what i made wrong ? could m GV1 put the engine at idle at full negative ?
On the 2 nd loop when i crashed, the heli almost made it but it was like 1 meter short u know and it landed so hard on the gorund that both frame and landing stuff broke ; boom was a little bent and need new one , no other thing damaged , after crash heli was idling standing like ready to take off but with broken landing gear

What could have made the heli loose all the power after the 1st half loop?

It was like doing a loop in normal mode but without having a curve set to keep moror high when pitch going negative, iam bad at explaining all that but iam sure you understand something

Thanks for any help ,

It is in your throttle curve and GV1 setup. You still need a throttle curve since the GV1 can disengage when the throttle input drops past a certain point.

With the heli engine not running. Look at you gv1 settings. (radio and receiver on)

go to the SWCd one the gv1 amp. (monitor function)

turn on the appropriate transmiter switch that turns the gv1 on

then to your idle up postion that you were flying.

Now, move the collective/throttle stick up and down slowly, while watching the amp

This will tell you if the governor is being switched off by the throttle stick postion. If it is, fix you throttle curve in that idle mode (basic v curve)

NOTE: This will only be the case if you are using the StSw function (stick switch)

Also make sure you set the (limit) settings in the GV-1.
They are on one screen in the GV-1 and they are:

Limit idle
Limit high
Limit stop

This tells the GV-1 the settings for the engine so it can turn itself on and off at 15% throttle stick, assuming you are using throttle stick as your on/off switching method.

Are you using the throttle stick as your on/off switch?

i dont use on/off on stick anymore , i use a direct switch and V curve for throttle in idle up now , gonna try that soon at the field ,
thanks for inputs.

Might want to increase your head speed a little, 1850 to1900 rpm in idle up would help. Also don't pull the elevator back all the way, just use enough to make a nice big loop.

I flew 3 tank today ,and all looked fine my gv1 was acting ok.

I fly usually normal mode 1500 rpm and 75% dual rate on rudder ,elevator and aileron,my idle up is 1800 rpm full throw and the transition is a bit brutal

I think i need to put my header tank and get used to fly without dual rate in normal before trying a loop again.

How much negative pitch should i add when heli is inverted in the loop ,0,-5,full negative?

Thanks

-5 is just about enough to hold the heli up while inverted, if you want to get any lift while inverted add more.
