Well, the weather held out over here in the UK today, so I actually got my first flight on my Webra powered 3DNT. Wow
It started very quickly and ran well straight away (CoolPower15, OS8 plug). I had it very rich so the first flight only lasted 6 or 7 mins, and the headspeed was way low. Second flight it tuned it up a little to get it running nicely on the pipe and the thing was explosive ! I thought my Voyager and old Futura Nova were powerful, but this thing takes the piss. All I was doing was some gentle hovering and a few blats on the collective to see what the climbout was like. I can see this is going to take a little getting used to. Anyhow, after setting up according to Jans instructions absolutely no trimming was necessary at the field. It hovered whereever you put it, the tail held straight - it was as good as it gets.

Tomorrow, some circuits... (and with the canopy on !)

Congratulation on your uneventful first fly with the 3DNT. Please let me know how well this machine auto when you have a change to test it out

At last, the Webra is running correctly...

Well, once I started trying to work the NT I was finding it obviously in need of a tune up, as any real load was bogging the engine. My original enthusiasm for the engine slowly turned to disappointment as I fiddled with the needles attempting to get it running correctly

But then it all changed. Managed to get Russ Deakin to tune my Webra yesterday and it is finally running as I expected it to. My having so little experience tuning engines is a definite disadvantage with the Webra as it seems quite critical on the needles. Behaviour that I was interpretting as due to richness actually turned out to be too lean ! Doh !

Anyway, after its' tune-up he then gave it some real abuse. Starting with a full power constantly pirouetting (1.5* per sec) climb-out and there was no bogging at all He also did one of the evil sideways take-offs amongst other things, which as a spectator I feel a lot more comfortable with whenit is someone elses model

Now all I need is a break in the rain so I can give it a good go with my much more limited flying skills.
