Synergy R/C Synergy N9 > Synergy RX pack

Hi Guys

Need some help with choosing a RX pack for the Synergy which, when I get it at 3DM, will have the following spec, 3 9255's, 9254 and 9256, GV-1, GY611 Futaba G3 RX.

Apart from weight, is there any real advantage in using a Lion pack and regulator as opposed to a 3,700 mAh NIMH pack?

I do not fly extream 3D so how many tanks could I expect to do with say a fully charged 3,700mAh NIMH pack or a 4,000 mAh LION pack?

Cheers

Weight is the main issue.

I flew 3300 NIHM packs for awhile and they worked fine. They are heavy.

I have a 4800 Fromeco pack in my R90 and it is overkill. You would really have to work to drain it in one day of flying.

Everything else I have their 2400 packs. Much easier to mount on the heli and half the weight. I have gotten seven full flights out of these packs in a single day. I could have probably gotten more than that, but there is no need to push it.

Gonna be fitting a Duralite pack to mine with 6v regulator and step down for tail. Gonna use 9255's, PCM G3 receiver, RevMax and 601 gyro.
I'm sure a high capacity NiMh will be ok as that's what i've been running on my Raptor 90's with no problems. I just thought i'd have a change with the new heli...

RX packs for Synergy

Darren,

Thanks for that, what packs did you use on the R90's and how many flights did you get from each pack?

Expect to get 4 may be 5 flights from a 3300 pack until the voltage gets low under load. I have the 4800 Fromeco packs & arizona reg in several helis, they do have a very high capacity but it means you don't have to bother charging them very much.

We have 2400Mah Fromeco Peerless cells with the Arizona Regulator in our Synergy, and get 4 flights before we need to change the cells.

Duralite packs

I have picked up a Duralite 2S2P 3000 mAh Li-Poly pack with a 6.0V HD regulator and a 5.1V step down for the gyro. The picture isn't posted on the Duralite site but the pack is available. I believe that this is the package that JK is using. I will also be trying SGP's Reactor regulator and Fromeco's Arizona for comparison purposes. I believe that the Canadian Synergy dealer will be handling the Duralite setup.

I would fly four flights maximum with my 3300mAH packs in my Raptor 90's before giving them a top up at the field. Not worth the risk flying anymore than that.

Should be able to get more with the Duralite setup.

Rockdoc, if you haven't ordered the servos yet, go with 9351's. The 9255's are NOT rated for 6v. safer bet. I have the duralite 3000 MAH lipo packs in my synergy's, got 6 flights yesterday expect 8-9 would be safe. I know they all have the same capacity, but it seems like the lipos give more duration...

I was speaking with A well known pilot of the synergy yesterday and they have been running them at 6v without issues for some time

Yup, i've heard this too from numerous 'Synergy Team Pilots' and they also seem to be working ok on my Raptor 90 (so far) so i'm gonna stick with the 9255's unless of course I kill them...

RX pack

Hi,

Running 4.8v servos at 6v will eventually burn them out as the motors are not designed for the extra voltage. these servos are being used with 6v and yes they do work and give a faster responce, but they wont last, I suppose it depends on whether money is no object.

What happens is digital servos have a fairly narrow dead band to begin with. The higher the voltage the narrower the dead band so if they aren't rated for 6v then you can get a very narrow dead band and the servo will over heat.

If you are running a regulator get a 5.1 or 5.3 volt and you wont have any problems, you probably wont be able to tell the difference between that and 6v unless you are a high end flyer, and all your electronics will last longer

Anyone know what the new Duralite 3000mah pack weighs?

Edders,

Lots of UK guys are using them no sweat... doesn't mean its a good idea Krause had one fail, could have been due to the servo not being able to handle the voltage.... He is using the 9351. Who knows, but why chance it...???

Plenty of folks have been using 9252s on 6 volts with no problems, doesn't mean you won't have if you do this, just that the likelihood of trouble is low. As I have the arizona reg, I'm running my 9252s at around 5.8 volts so hopefully not putting them under much more stress than a fully charged 4 cell NiCd pack.
