My Wife has decided that she wants to try her hand at flying heli's!! I'm in Heaven I tell ya, Heaven man. This morning she has been practicing with the CX and she has already got it into a hover about 3' off the ground! Says she wants an Evo .50. I'm a lucky lucky man!

Hey John,

My wife started flying with me a few months ago and I have to say--It has been great.. She is flying really well so far. The SIM truly has been helpful to both of us. We are both new to heli's within the last 6-8 months.

Oh yeah-- It does have its advantages though... She always asks if this or that is needed on her heli. which means it works both ways...

Glad to hear the wife wants to fly too. I have loved it since my hubby mechanic (TJRIDE) got me into flying helis. It is a great hobby to share......

Have her get online here and check out the Women Pilot topics. There are actually several of us heli gals and it is nice when we can share thoughts, opinions and such.

Whoh - hold on, if you let the Mrs fly then sooner or later she is going to find out that to buy a 90 and all the bits is more than a couple of hundred pounds - or worse - she'll discover the PayPal account

What it actually means Thomashome is that instead of buying for example, 1 set of Gorilla Landing gear you have to buy 2 sets!!! Or any other part of the heli. Sounds fair to me!!

The Hubby Mechanic just got in the mail a new set of Gorilla Gear - but there was only one set - hmmmm going to have to have a talk with him.......

I would be nice if the Mrs flew too but I do value my one day a week where I get away form the it all.

On a different note, I think Mr RR should re think the heliman title on the profile.

Thanks for the replies. I'm pumped as we do almost everthing else together but I feel bad when she sits at the field for hours just watching my son and I. Besides, those grumpy ole codgers at our field will probably just about have a heart attack if a woman starts flying heli's also!

Girlfriends fly too!!!

Its just not wifes who want to fly. I learned how to fly 3 years ago after watching my boyfriend. He took me to the late Ernie Hubers Heli School. Mike in Mobile bilds and services all of my helis, i highly encourage more women to try it you would be surprised, once you learn you can't get enough. Oh! And for you guys out there who are afraid of us finding out the expense, I bought him a Bergen.

Yes,

Belinda learned fairly quickly ....... Guess I am lucky .... I can spend as much on toys as I need to to support the habit!

The key to the toys is..

Toys

I will never call my helis toys, they can are very dangerous machines, I have seen some fairly bad battle scars. You should always respect your machine they have a nasty habit of biting when you don't. That was my very first lesson before learning how to fly.

Hi All,

You have a point BelindaInMobile, but i call all my fun things toys. Motorcycles, ATV, Sleds, rc cars, and my heli's. They are all wicked dangerous. From that point they are not toys.

However, they are fun to play with so they kinda are toys.

but you're right, one should not dismiss the inherent danger of all of the above

Cheers,
Leslie

Hello Leslie

I know I should not get so upset when others refer to helis to toys, its just the way I have been trained. But I have to admit they are fun. I call them my goodies.

Keep on flying and have fun.

Oh! and I have to agree about those bugs I swear I have a big target paint on me somewhere, all I have to do is walk out the door and they scream chow time.

Thanks again for the replies. Well this weekend she asked my son if she could try to hover his Sceadu, he just about had a heart attack but finally he agreed. She worked and worked at it and by the second tank she could get it in the air and hold her pretty steady! Gonna have to break out the check book soon and get her a .50! She is doing well. She has also decided she wants to paint some canopies so she has bought a new paint gun, broken out my Paschee airbrush and just ordered $500 worth of House of Kolor paints!! This should be fun.

John

PS-Belinda, I'm afraid they are toys. But, just because their toys doesn't mean they can't hurt you, shoot most males can manage to hurt themselves with Lego's if you give em long enough!!

SubSailor,

congrats on the wife, and to your son, I too know that heart attack feeling. A friend of ours asked to fly mine (almost hit the house)
lost the tail blades but it was landed safely. Hey, think of it this way you may have to break out the check book but we can't take it with us so we may as well have fun. Okay I give, you guys can have your toys and enjoy playing with them. But goodies are sweeter.

Leslie I also have atrex but this wind (tornado alley) in our back yard is really messing with me. Constantly having to land to keep it
in one piece. But I refuse to give up, all I can do is keep at it.

Belinda,
You keep at it with that Trex, when you go to a bigger heli it's going to be easy for you. Those Trex's are a handful! You'll fly a bigger bird like a Queen Bee when you get one!
John
PS-I like goodies!

BelindaInMobile already has several Nitro birds .... an Xcell 30, a Hawk, and a Raptor 60. She hasn't flown the Trex yet (it has been ready for her about 6 months now), but eventually, she will fly that one too.

The Nitro birds are what she learned on!

SubSailor,

I forgot to tell him I had taken my trex out. But it scared the goodies out of me with the way the wind just takes it. But I refuse to let it get the best of me, I'll get it yet.
