There's a lot of what to use but no links to where to get it except the motor and mount. Is there a complete conversion kit for the Shuttle ZXX out there somewhere? And if there is where do I get it?
Thanks.

I feel more like I do now than I did when I got here.

Metal RG

Hi all

Just thought I would add to the thread..

I have a shuttle RG (metal version) and I have a hhi mount on its way, I have also read all the threads about the conversions..

My RG is quite heavy, about 1 pound heavier than my plastic shuttle.

So to pose a question, if I use a 800rpm/v motor and a 6s lipo, Am I in the right ball park, I'm looking for about 1750 head speed.

I want to use 2 x 3s pack as I have the capability of charging up to 4s, so I thought using 2x 3s...

My RG was/is under powered with the os32 and have moved to an AS40 (toki)+pipe, its better and flies nicer, but we are likely to loose our field next year and may have to go electric to fly else where

thoughts/ comments

thanks

Hey Cliff,

Yes, I think you are in the ball park with the 800Kv motor. I am running a Tango 45-08 (800Kv) on my ZXX at about 1600rpm. It will turn a higher rpm but I have it dialed down a bit. I have tested a Tango 45-10 (1070Kv) on my ZXX and it produced head speeds from ~1750 to 2300+ on 6S with 550 carbons.

I am currently converting two RG's. My RG's have long tails on them running 600 carbons. So, I'm hoping that with the longer blades and heavier helis the 45-10 should work well for the RG's.

I just had a custom battery tray made for my RG/M. This heli is now ready to fly. I will post a report soon.

Clark

Cool stuff, I just have to wait for the mount and then start to gather bits, so the Tango seems to be the overall best motor to go for? what kind of ESC are you using with them?

Cheapest will be Castle Creations pheonix 85 HV, or kontronik Jazz 55A. or Schulze 55A.

Cliff, I am using the CC HV85 ESC and have not had any problems at all. In fact, I have three of them on my RG Fleet. I run them in GOV mode and love it.

Sounds good, I will be on the lookout for some deals now to gather the parts, and get my self on the electric ladder over the next few months...

Keep all the posts coming on all your shuttle conversions as I like looking at all the different ideas people have for solving problems.

Medusa

I have my motor mount now..

anyone have any thoughts or comments on using Medusa 36mm 810 Kv motor? they are a little cheaper than the tango 45-08, but are they as good - or better??

I have decided on using 2x 3s batts of around 4000mah...

Thoughts?

Good morning Cliff,

Ran across your post and noticed that you were looking at using the Medusa 810kv motor.
If you have a moment stop by the wattflyer site and go to Standard/Large Heli forum and look for Hirobo conversion by P901 or do a search on this site for postings by P901, pretty much same photos and description of conversion and modifications.
I think I am running a setup that is very close to the one you are proposing.

I have pics of my E shuttle in the other shuttle pic thread.

it has:
HHI mount
Z30A-800 motor
45HV ESC
10s1p A123 batts

1st flight will be soon Im just not sure where to mount the batts so far. I'll strip the dewalt case off the batts today. I might cut the servo tray like csc did....

Sorry for the duplicate post guys but some of you may be subscribed to this topic and miss my other post. I had put it up before I found this thread!

Shuttle Conversion

This is my conversion:

Funkey Sky Ranger Body on a Hirobo Shuttle with a NEU 1907-1.5Y motor, CCHV45 esc on 6s2p A123's cells in MEC power tubes, 9 tooth Pinion, 550 carbon main blades, Trex 600 tail rotor blade grips and hub, GY 401, Castle creations new BEC, Futaba 3050 servos, and Spectrum TX & RX. I use a Hyperion 1201i charger for the A123's. 16 minute charge at 10 amps to 100% charge and then 10 to 11 minutes of fun scale flying, fast manuvering, and great climbouts to boot. In other words plenty of power at around 1750 rpm at the head, and it all comes down nice and cool to the touch. I have found this to be a perfect combination! Many of the guys I fly with have flown it several times, and they ask to fly it again and again.

I am a strong proponant of A123 cells as I have a Hirobo Lama configured the same way, only I converted it to 120 degree ccpm.

I also fly my Trex 600 with a slightly modified Rotorwerkz frame to accept both 14s and 8s2p A123's in MEC Power tubes. It is powered by a NEU 1910-1Y motor with a 14 tooth pinion, CCHV85 esc, and I have power to do anything. Also, because they are inherantly safe and have no tendancy to burn, I can charge my A123' in the heli. No more $350.00 to $400.00 dollar Lipo batteries for me! Also, for whatever it is worth, I have found most folks who voice negative comments about A123's have never flown them or for that mater seen them, go figure.

Good afternoon Mr. Morgan,

I`ve been thinking about giving those batteries a try, they
sound like they are working very well for you.
Can you tell me what your total weight, ready to fly, would be?
Also, what is your main gear ratio with the 9t pinion?
Any photos ?

Thanks, andrew

Shuttle and A123's

Andrew:

I am using the standard 77 tooth main gear and a nine tooth pinion, which gives a ratio of 8.555 on the shaft. The weight, ready to fly on 6s2p is about 6.25 lbs. The NEU 1907-1.5Y has a KV of 915. I will post some pictures of my conversion soon.

9 tooth Pinion

Hello Fergus:

I get my Pinions From FX Aeromodels(Fxaeromodels.com).

The Part number is CNMG509. It is by "Century" for $7.80. The info is: 9 tooth (1.0 mod), 5mm shaft size.

They also stock the NEU 1907-1.5Y with fan, right now at a very good price---$147.00

Hope this helps.

Thanks Richard did that pinion screw directly onto the clutch bell?

I have my conversion finished but this pinion might give me some more adjustment in headspeed if it fits. My conversion is pictured in my gallery.

Thanks again Richard

Regards

Pinion

Hello Fergus:

I am not running the clutch assembly, so I don't know if it will work for you. I am using direct drive with a modified main gear bearing, saves weight. Look on Fx's site and use "pinion" in the search window. They have many different types. Otherwise you might try to contact E-Hirobo, they may have what you need.

Crap I with I had seen this thread before yesterday. I bought and built a trex 600 yesterday but would have much rather converted my RG.
