That was the FIRST scale model I ever built. It is the huges 500 T, the t
means T tail. I use a American r/c mantis mech's in it. And it flew great.

Fed,

It is a Hughes 369D, AKA Hughes 500. Very nice flying machine. A bit on the small side but very agile. It has a max gross weight of 3,000lbs and cruises about 130 to 140 mph.

Here's a link to a heli history site.

Hope this helps.

To hover is divine, the alternative is rather PLANE.

Well I have say I think you are right Mike, flying and great do not mix when talking about a mantis !! A good day flying a Mantis was going home and not having to rebuild it because something else broke.

But after flying one for awhile, I had replaced most of the plastic parts with ones made out of metal that lasted longer, then they came out with the collective kit for it and it did fly better. A few of us did make major changes to the green belt drive to keep it from slipping on the tail, and that did work for a while. And if my memory serves me right , I did fly that model in the Nat's one year.
