Women Pilots > yay!

I just wanted to say that I think it's great there is now a Women's subtopic on this site. I personally think it's great having Women in the sport and would like to see more of them out there. My girlfriend is very supportive of my hobby, and every now and then I try and get her on the simulator to maybe one day be able to give her the chance to fly one of my helis.

I know for her, and other women as well, if the presence of women in the hobby was more known, it would be even more attractive of a pursuit.

Thanks! Adam

Well helis is instinctly for women a 'mans thing' imo, but would be happy to see more female pilots....

IMHO this is the reason why there are few women as pilots or mechanics: most women (not all, of course) are more interested in people, than in things. Most men are more interested in things than in people.

Now, WHY this is so - is another question entirely.

Never underestimate the power of very stupid people in large groups.

IMO thats y helis and wifes / gfs dont mix, the girl wants to control money/ fianance, and man wants money for helis. Or they don't like spending on an object, and stay with it a lot of the time as what w8qz said. They would rather spend on buying clothes.... hold there, they dont buy it for it, as an object, instead its for socical occasions, same for other woman things, like perfume..... Heli isn't gona make them more attractive, as clothes and perfume do, so they think its a man thing, and as a sterotype for girls are that they spend lots of time / money on dressing up themselves. Correct me if I'm wrong....

personally i think its a great thing. it doesnt have to be a "guy only thing". and if you want to have it as time to get away from the girls, go ahead. nothing wrong with that.

its silly to pigeon hole a hobby such as this as "male only".

Well we wish that we can break that 'barrier' for girls to fly helis..... Just put like some brands on it and let them fly.....

I don't know why more women are not interested in flying helis either. Could be from a a lack of knowledge. I didn't know much about it either till I started my bf. I went to a few fly-ins with him and go a little interested, tried the sim and did ok, so I decided to buy my own Blade CX2. It is definatley a challange to learn to hoover and not land it too hard ( I have a bad habit of doing that when i get nervous). Hope this fall to get a new heli that I will hopefully be able to fly outdoors next summer.

I have an 8 yr old who has shown a little interst in learning to fly and maybe this winter I will be able to help her out on the sim some. Both my girls like watching the guys at the club fly, so who knows maybe they will spark an interest in it.

Hobby Store attitude

One thing I want to mention as a Female pilot who has gotten attitude in the past and found it difficult to break into the hobby. You may find some guys out there that will give attitude to a woman on the field, but the most and worst attitude I have ever recieved has always been at the local Hobby store......

If I'm looking for a part, and know exactly what I want it should be a quick 2 min transaction, but it takes me at least 35 min each time to get a customer service rep to even acknowlege that I am standing right in front of them. I have had them repeatedly skip me and go onto the next 2 in line and only when the line up is go will they acknowlege that I am there.

There are 2 main hobby stores close to us and I have to make a 2 hour drive to get there. There is one store I will only go to if the other is sold out. This makes it very frustrating as a pilot, and lets face it girls were us to customer service, if we do not get it we tend to not shop there any more. Guy take a look at how your wife or girlfriend is treated in the store or at the field next time, shopping for a car or even at the mechanics shop and still ask yourself why you don't see too many female pilots.

And girls don't put up with the **** any more if you want to fly and are worried about breaking your spouces chopper or plane, buy your own and then they can't complain. (guys buy them one and you will see we tend to stop complaining about the $$$$$)....Lol
