How tight should the mesh be between the main gear and the gear that drives the tail?

Also does anyone else have a little play on the top bearing of the transmission gear axis? Just wondering if this slight play may have caused me to loose a few teeth on my main gear.

The loss of teeth is most likely due to the fact that you have not done the "third bearing mod". This mod puts a bearing support at the very bottom of the rotor shaft, below the main gear. It assist greatly with a consistant mesh of the main/tail drive gears and will allow you to have a smooth mesh. I got through about 4 main gears for no apparent reason prior to installing this and have not done one since. Robbe do their own version and there is at least one from the aftermarket manufacturers.

The Heliup one comes with a very good anti-rotation arm, see link below

I found the tail belt drive gear to be too tight against my main gear so I tore down my sport eolo to open up the holes to allow the tail drive gear housing to be moved back. It has not been finished for over a month due to other pressing projects.

I have another eolo with the silver frame (stronger but not worth 3x the price). That one results in the mesh being proper.

It is no biggie to open up the holes a bit so you can move the gear housing back a bit.

The heliup 3rd bearing setup results in a phase change on the swashplate, best addressed by a 9Z radio, or some sort of mixing. It also requires you build special shorter links. I converted all my eolos with this setup back to the stock swashplate driver setup and added the 3rd bearing design as provided on the SE kits because I standardized on the 9C radio now.

I wouldn't replace my eolos with any other electric that is out there now, but I sure wish it had a driven tail.

Thanks for the replies.

I do Have the Heliup and the Robbe third bearing. I use the Robbe so I don't have to fiddle with the phasing mix.

I am using the Heliup wire drive upgrade system. I have had no problems with this set-up, but I do have the belt drive waiting to be installed.

I should have added this info orginally.

I wish we had a North American/USA parts source

Thanks,
John

the mesh between the tail pinion gear and the crown gear should be zero lash. I run them just a bit on the tight side at first and put some silicone lube on the gear.

Alex at eRCMarket has taken excellent care of my voratious appetite for eolo parts and upgrades.
