at the risk of redundance...

We already have the ability here to have a very effective Bad Guy List. It's called the Good Guy List, and on a Bad Guy's classified ad is where it starts.

When you see an ad (or an offer to buy) from someone who's ripped you off, or someone you know has a bad history, click on his 'Add Me To Good Guy List' link and POST your story about that Bad Guy's previous bad dealings.

The Good Guy List can do exactly what we need it to do -- spread the word about both the Good Guys AND the Bad Guys -- with very little effort.

If we do this, then every time a deal is offered or a buyer comes forth we'll have a single place we can go to check up on those who might be shady.

It could work.

Well ace since you say we need a better solution since posting doesn't seem like the best option. Do you have a better solution?

Sure, ever hear of eBay? Why not link someones buyer/selling feedback rating with their profile? Obviously, it would be something they cannot edit by themself. However, whenever an item is bought/sold the buyer/seller can rate each other on the deal (just like eBay) and then that individual's rating can show up in each post (under their name/location) or in each of their for sale/wanted ads. It's actually quite simple and it sure beats searching some list with hundreds of posts trying to determine if someone is a good/bad guy. I'm sure even the search feature will return hundreds of posts.

Example:
Ace Dude
Status: Key Veteran

Registered: Aug 2002
Location: USA
Buyer/Seller Rating: 100% Positive

The next step would be to extend this across the various R/C related websites so a scammer on one site could be detected when he goes somewhere else. Yesterday I thought about the feasability of developing a centralized RC buyer/seller feedback system, but like many things in this hobby it doesn't sound like it would be profitable and it would take time and money to develop.

I was just thinking....

How about a lowballer or a rediculous offer rating as well:

Example:
Ace Dude
Status: Key Veteran

Registered: Aug 2002
Location: USA
Buyer/Seller Rating: 100% Positive
Lowballer Rating: 0%

joke, right?
Penalize someone because you arent happy with their offer??
Dumbist Idea I have read yet

If you aren't happy with their offer, don't respond to it. Just as you are intitalled to ask stupid money, they are intitalled to offer it.

Or maybe have a "This person asks WAY too much money for their items" ratings

I like this approach and did so back when I had my dealing with kirrajas.... I also like the idea of the buyer/seller rating proposed by Ace Dude.....

Only problem with the rating system, though, is that a person may have an overall "good" rating, yet, have one HUGE "negative" rating, like with the case with the Clown Prince..... He has mostly positive feedback here and only a handful of negatives.....

As I stated before, unless a person has 100 % positive rating, that should be enough to throw the red flag up......

Juan, the only issues I forsee with any feedback system is that I wouldn't want the rating system to be a bargaining chip, "do this or I won't give you good feedback".

Also, we really need something that works across multiple sites so we can track these guys down as they make their rounds from site to site.

The basic positive, neutral, negative system seems to work well enough for eBay. Also, since it's based on a percentage even one negative feedback will bring someone below 100% for quite some time. Especially since most folks aren't selling 100s of items here.

I agree. Maybe we should ask Mark to consider that.....

To me, a person has to be 100 % positive or the red flag should be waiving loud and clear !!

I agree, but I think sometimes we need to look beyond the ratings to see what really happened. All too often buyers and sellers can have unrealistic expectations.

Any feedback system should apply to both buyers and sellers so both can rate each other.

Thanks to Mark R for removing the BS post by 'kirrajas' on the Good Guy List.

I haven't been keeping up on his dealings. Is he still up to the same old tricks?
