HIROBO Freya - Sceadu - Shuttle > EVO50..... What a nice machine!

I must say after a couple of crashes I'm in love. This so far is the easiest helicopter I've owned to setup, repair or rebuild.

Main blades fit perfectly without shims or prying the grips open to get them in.

The head comes apart and goes back together very easily... except for the soft flybar. I helped that out by taking someones advice here and grinding flats at the setscrew locations.... cudos to the new cordless dremel.. takes about 30 seconds to do it.

Tailboom fits perfectly. Never slides in flight.

I have yet to replace a tail ouput shaft in two crashes. They are very durable. My old Tiger50 bent one every time.

The loose design tail hub bearing design actually allows some forgiveness in a crash. Also haven't broke anything there. Real thrust bearings give it robustness in flight.

I love the built in servo screw bosses. I hate loose bosses. Makes replacing servos a piece of cake.

Blades grips, bearing and spindle. Very easy to replace. Bearings are ALWAYS nice and free spinning. I like the stock 6mm spindle and the perfect fit of parts.

Main shafts are like a work of art... and they aren't overpriced.

Stock swashplate is tight and well made. No upgrade needed.

Very nice heli for the money. I guess you have to experience a variety before you understand what quality really is.

Well I have to join the band wagon, the GRASS IS GREENER OVER HERE!!!! I only have a few flights so far on my EVO50 BUT I LOVE IT!!! Super smooth. Parts fit great too like Mike said. Plus whos better than JEFF GREENE?!?!?!

I got mine used, took it apart, read the directions and put it back together, and when I first put her in the air, Tracking was dead on and it was so smooth.

Jeff

Going to beat it up today. My helicopter too.

CCPM or eCCPM is a reference to 3 servo swash plate mixing where three servos are mixed in the radio to control all three swashplate movements for pitch, aileron, and elevator.

I've owned my Evo for a year and a half now, and I have to tell you, I'm happy with it long term. I've never kept a heli for more than 6 months, I always get bored with it, and want something new, or get fed up with some weak point in the design, and thus far the Evo has exceeded every expectation I have. The only weak point I find is the need to dial indicate the clutch. If there was only a one way bearing in it like a Raptor clutch, I'd say the Evo would be the perfect machine. Well, that and some sort of ground repellant.

Even the Raptors need to be dialed in. Only difference is that you don't notice it in flight. The vibration just kills the clutch and starter shaft bearings.

Ya I am in on this one. Two 50's one 30 and I just got done with a 90. I am not new to helis(hate to tell you how long) and have had more than you would belive. I love the way the EVO's fly. The cost is fine and they work without bling.
O ya that guy Jeff Greene is doing a grate job. I met him when he started out years ago at a hobby shop that I had with a friend.
Keep up the good work.

Indeed indeed!!!! I cant say enough about my Evo's!!! But alas I still miss me old Shuttles.. As I have only flown Hirobos I cant really say much about the other makes. But soon as I get me Rappy 30v2 up and going I will deff post my comparisons to the Evo30. Only thing I see that I like over the Evo towards the Rappy is they get the cool sticker kits. Like that F1 McLearin. Unless anyone know of a place where to get ones for the Evo's. I have seen a few sticker kits but nothing like the rappy ones.

I guess this will be the official "I LOVE EVOs" thread again.....

I absoutly love my 2 EVO 50s, I have been flying a CCPM and a MCCPM for the past couple of years. Low maintenance and great flying qualities right out of the box.

I am planning on getting an EVO 90 in the near future, but I do love my 50s.

It looks like an AVANT canopy cut down for the Evo.

I'm on my second year with the Evo, which started life as an Evo 30 and was upgraded a few months back to an Evo 50.

The Evo is a nice heli. It is quite easy to build and maintain, and behaves very well in the air.

For those of you complaining about dialing in the clutch, you should have tried to center a mainshaft on the Kyosho Concept/Nexus series.... what a PITA that was! Compared to that this one centering task on the Evo is a piece of cake.

It is the AVANT canopy, not cut down, though I had to move the mounting holes.

Got to fly my 50 again today, did my first flips and loops with it too, and it came home in one piece. Very responsive. And smooth as all hell...Dial in clutch? Am I supposed to do this? Can you explain how? If the clutch has two holes that line up already, what am I trying to achieve? Im only asking, cause I dont know...please keep it civil.

Jeff

Jeff when things spin at 30-50,000 rpms, .005" wobble can create enough high frequency vibration to damage bearings and create havoc with your gyro.

They say to look at your fuel in your tank when at operating speed. The top surface should be stable. If it's bubbly or looks agitated, you very well may need to balance and or dial in your hub/fan/clutch.

Since we don't like removing these parts after a build, we simply do it as part of the initial buildup.

Once you set yourself up and do it the first time, it's no biggy afterwords. I did mine last night and found it to be pretty close. The top of the start shaft was off .004 so I tweeked it to within .001". The bottom of the start shaft at the clutch was already withing .001".

I balanced my fan/hub assy on a Dubro balancer. It was out pretty good due to the governor magnet. Drilled about 5 3/16" dia spots arond the magnet to get it balanced.

You can get away without doing these things but high speed balance and the dymanics associated with it is real. If it's out bad enough and you didn't check it you are asking for problems.

I found that switching the clutch 180 deg between the two possible positions on hub gave different results. You pick the one that gives the least runout than tweek it in.

Mike
