e-Align T-REX 250-450-500-600 > I had it with Align

It just so happened tonight that I redid all my head ball links while finally dropping the last plastic holdouts on my head.

Used my caliper and all to get everything lined up.

Went outside to spool up... noticed the tracking was off by a smidge (about a mm)... twisted a lower linkage one full turn and tracking was back to being dead on.

My rex experiences!! Thanks Align!!

Gentelman, I've been fly helicopters since 1979 and am a pretty fair 3D Pilot. Presently I own 43 helicopters including many glow, gas and and electrics. My stable includes 9 T-rex 450s and 2 T-rex 600s. Guess what I fly the most? When it come to pure flying fun my T-rex 450s are by far the most fun helicopters to fly. I fly them nearly every day, before work, at lunch and in the evenings by my house! I can fly them anywhere and when I do dumb thumb them in, I can get them back in the air with minimal cost and repair time. I have 3 JR Vibe 90's and while I enjoy flying these machines, My Rexxes get the most stick time. I've actually built and flown 27 T-rexxes so far mostly for my heli friends and have had two swashplate seperations and one tail belt issues and that's it. However I'm a very careful experanced builder. Typically the T-rexxs fly perfectly right off the bench. Bottom line for me/ I'm flying more than ever before and having more fun doing it! My flight skills have improved tremendiously all due the the T-rex!!!! Thanks Align!!! I've never enjoyed R/C more!!!

NO, not only 9 Trex, 11 indeed. Nice big family, 2 parents and 9 kids! I've got only 1 big Rex and 3 small Rex plus a Lipoly V2. But after only 2 years of flying it's not bad either. I still can catch up with Adams. I have to get much more helis!!!

@ptarp
Why is the banana yellow and not straight?

I believe I can fly....

Why not? He could have a VERY bad day at the field and still have 5 or 6 left for tomorrow!

I previously had a V1 and I thought the V1 plastic parts was reminsecent of cheap plastic toys. Anyway I had a lot of trouble getting the V1 to fly with the stock Align motor and subsequently managed to get it to perform reasonably well with a Hacker B40 motor. Yes the initial Align BL motors were indeed crap and did not have the required power to fly the heavy V1.

However, the hacker B40 powered, V1 served me well over the past two years. Nothing failed though I did crash a few times. What I could say about the V1 was that the early one way bearings were pretty weak and often stripped in a crash. Other than that the V1 flew relatively well.

I subsequently bought the T-Rex SE in January this year (after weighing the cost benefits of upgrading the old V1) and was blown away by it. It flew great and I am very happpy with it and its miles apart from the V1 in terms of stability and liveliness. I only flew the V1 once ever since the SE arrived.

Although the SE (silver frame) arrived partially pre-assembled, I made it a point to check each and every nut and bolt (an experience I learnt from my pre-assembled Raptor 30 of years gone by when the bolts came loose in flight!) and not leaving anything to chance by assuming that its properly asembled. Also balanced the rotor head and blades in the process. Yup, there were a few loose screws and tightening them up and applying thread lock took care of it.

The only problem I had with the SE was a stripped bolt I caused by overthghtening during assembly but fortunately Align included some spares so no real issues there.

I have been flying the SE for almost 10 months now and I dont really see a problem associated with quality except the 450L (gold color) motor end bell coming loose after 9 months of flying (it was a know problem, but I did not bother address it..so that was self-inflicted). Drilling the endbell and case and inserting a lock pin resolved the problem. The only part replaced so far due to wear and tear has been the tail belt that gets frayed pretty quickly.

Honestly I am very happy with the SE and bang for the buck its a pretty well built heli and it flies so much like my Raptor 50 that its come to completely replace it.

Like any pre-assembled aircraft, you just have to check every part and not assume it being properly assembled. The parts are assembled by human and human do make mistakes!

Never assume anyhting because Assumption is the Mother of all F*ck-ups!

Happy landings.

The problem is that people in the hobbie are always stand as beta testers for the companies. This mean that in the begining the manufactures bring up a new model without tested it 100% or they tested it and found problems that are they are aware about but they start market them. It is like buying cheap chinees toys that will break after 10 minutes instead of buying the original pay twice but it will last for ever. My point of view if you buy rc heli actually you don't need any upgrades, it should be fly with no problem out of the box, like the manufactures claim. If there are a lot of upgrades and a lot parts need to be change this mean that the stock model is crap. I never understand people buying a model and start to buy upgrades. In total the price gets twice as the original, so why to buy find other heli that from the begining will fly ok. If you find gliches this mean that there is a problem with the model, so don't buy it from the begining and you will not need afterward crying.

A word to the good

Now then, I,ve had a SE V2 for 7 months and will admit that my trex was built by an experienced Heliman and my self over 16 hours .Measure twice and fitted and checked again .

Result a heli which has had 3 minor dings (my fault) in 70 hours of flying.I,m retired and check the bird after each session and admit to only flying scale.

A superb little helicopter with little or no need to repair.

Now the down side The major complaint is the cost in England £409 ($760) Maybe we in England we are paying for the Jason Krause version as my friends heli is the same high standard as mine .Align bring on the next heli and make mine a Krause version.

Remember we don,t have problems,we only create them for others

For those of you that defend the Trex, I understand how you feel when people always complain an say that align sucks, but it many cases you defend Align too much. There is TRUTH to what Karl58 and other "whiners" have said about the Trex and they ARE helping others by exposing common problems with the Trex 450. Yes there are positive things about the Trex but the negative aspects MUST be known so others can make a better choice about whether to buy the Trex 450 or a different product.

I recall someone saying that you are a dumbass for trusting a munufacture and believing that a pre-assembled kit is ready to go out of the box. This may be true if one is EXPERIENCED in the helihobby. There are many newbies buying the Trex who have no clue about the nature of the heli hobby. You cannot call them dumbasses for thinking that that they dont have to reassemble it.

If we all bend over and just let companies screw us with SH!T products then there is no incentive for them to improve.

Oohh me just thinks one expects a Porsche for the price of a Mazda and you cannot make a product that non-experienced will have absolutely no problems with....

Check out what Walkera customers complain about...

Guess that's why it's working well for so many experienced and vv.

I had another failure on my Align stuff. My metal swashplate is very notchy, on the other hand it's one of the absolutely first ones for the 450x, think I got it in 2004...

Supposedly a leftie :-) And another one ignored...

Wow ........ here's a blast from the past Well the question was asked .... what 400 sized heli is better? No question the E325 Mini Titan is better. Problem is availability of spares at present. Once that situtaion is resolved the E325 is highly recommended

Make it stop, make it stop. I just bought a T-REX 450SA, and after stumbling across this thread, I am afraid to even look at it.

There are scores of people that are flying with align and have not had any problems. It just does not make an intresting post. As to which helicopter is better. That is a question that rages on with helicopters at every size. Go to the main discusion and post start a forum saying that you like your evo 50 better than the raptor. It seems like there is one on there weekly. But I would do some searches and you will find that there are tons of people that have flown the align products without any problems. Before you make your judgement look for the other side of the argument.

fwiw...

If you think Align is bad,buy a Chevy...
I've had many helis over the years, ALL of them had issues...Concept, any Kalt, you name it..This is a VERY difficult hobby, or many of us wouldn't be in it...The Mini Titan, alas, is not a TRex killer...A product has to be measurably better, faster, cheaper....It's a good heli, but a a lateral move from the Rex...
My SA is currently my all round favorite...13 g heavier than my carbon, and man can it take a hit! That or the S model Align is the best bang for the buck in this size heli right now, and the 600 is unbeatable in the larger category...(BTW, found some issues with that one too!)
I wish threads like this didn't scare the noobs...There's enought o worry about when you're starting, and the Align products simply aren't that bad....

John.
