I will initially be using s 3s2p config with 2 Apex 18c batteries. Once pinions are available I will move to a 5s emoli setup assuming it will fit in the frames and the CG balances.

Did you have to trim the canopy? I checked Hirobo's recommendation, and it's only 160x50x23 versus the TP 3S3P which is 185x50x23.

Don't think there is room for a 5s emoli setup. A 4s setup almost fills the battery tray. I will most likely stick with using 2 T-Rex batteries in a 3s2p setup. Once pinions are available I'm going to investigate using the T-Rex batteries in a 6s1p setup.

you can get 185mm in there but it would sort of hang out the
front of the canopy (but the 'chin' gets cut out anyway).

I am still building mine but the reccomendation by my LHS was 4S Light Storm 20C 3700 packs.... I bought 4 of them. OUCH that hurt the wallet...

I cant wait to fly this thing.

Hey Guys,

I don't have a Leptoon yet and probably won't get one untill they release the cheaper non EX version...

I am looking for a charger to charge my 9CHPS RX and TX packs (for my EVO50), but i want to get a charger that will also be able to charge the presumably lipo's i would need if i were to get a Lepton later on.

Would an accu cycle elite be capable of charging whatever packs a Lepton might need?

For what it's worth, I'm going to intially try out 4S1p emoli stick packs ($65 each to make!!). You can check out my website (menehunerotorworks dot com)to see what they look like and download the KC spreadsheet to see my theoretical calculations of them. My previous calculations for my first emoli experiment (Hughes 500D) were more conservative than what I saw in real performance at the field, so I'm very optimistic about these. I'm not a 3D'er so I'm not checking to see if they will work for hardcore 3D. They should be great for sport flying and aerobatics though.

I got my lepton today and have built up the frame so far. To use emoli cells you have to add a few washers to the battery tray supports. I've added pictures to the Lepton section of my website (menehunerotorworks dot com). All it takes is 12 x 3mm washers (the emoli packs are 53mm wide, the Lepton battery tray supports are ~50mm apart).

Just got back from the field doing initial emoli testing in my Lepton. Doing FFF ckts, and occasional full power climbs, I saw the following: 7 minutes 20 sec flight time at 2300 rpm HS, batt temp 120F, 1972 mah used, avg current 20A, peak current 43A (on climbout), min volatge during flight 14.0 VDC, avg power 245 watts. Should be able to fly 10 minutes on these packs, sport flying. I'll collect 2500 rpm data this weekend. I've updated the power analysis spreadsheet on my website. I'm positively ecstatic about these emolis!!!

How did you get the HS down to 2300? Throttle curve? I'm using the Hacker A30-10XL w/ 4s and the K.C. spreadsheet says to expect a HS of 3100.

Governor mode. The Jazz speed controllers have the best governor mode of any ESC. They are designed to keep phenomenal efficiency at partial load conditions. Lesser ESC's start to heat up excessively at such partial loads.

More testing today on the emolis.
Head speed used - 2550 RPM
Flight time- 7 min 40 sec (from start of spool up)
2547 mAh used (out of 3000 mAh available)
Average power= 269 watts
Average current = 20 A
Peak current during full power climb = 49 A
Min voltage during flight 10.3 VDC (at last seconds of flight on ground before spool down)
Voltage started to drop off sharply at 12.85V, 2425mAh, 6 min 50 sec, there was plenty of control to allow landing.
Post flight temperatures:
Battery 129F
motor 139F
ESC 120F

This flight consited of standard circuits as fast as I could make them. One full power climb also conducted for max current (easily seen on graph of data). I continue to be impressed by these emoli cells and how they work so well with the Lepton!!!

Hello all

When running 3s2p is there any do's or don'ts as far as charging and hooking the two batteries together?I'm using 3cell 2100 and have the TP1010c and Tp210v.I would like to just charge them seperate then hook them together but don't know the best and safest way.

Just make a Y adapter. keep the wires relatively short. Some ESC's are affected by battery wires that are too long. I would say charge them seperately. If there is any difference in pack voltage when you hook them up, the pack with the higher voltage will preferentially take on more of the current draw until both packs are of identical voltage. They'll should then stay that way until the end of the flight, Don.
