e-E-Flite Blade CP CX 400-3D > What should I buy, CX or CP?

I am wanting to get into and learn flying a RC Helicopter. I have flown a RC Airplane before and totally understand that a heli is completely different. I am 30-years old and am trying to find a hobby and this interests me very much.

I have Real Flight SIM and haven't had much luck with it for Airplanes or Heli. I have found it very distracting as you can't see your surroundings half the time. So with that said I am looking for something to learn on and would also be using the training gear to start out with. From reading E-Flte website, it is evident that the CX is trully for beginners and the CP adds some more functionality. I would like something to learn on that I could use a little more also before stepping up into the big dollars.

I am located in Arizona and will be flying outside. I am sure my wife wouldn't appreciate me flying inside our home and I am sure our dogs wouldn't appreciate either.

Thanks in advance!

I think the cx would be your best bet. after mastering it you can still enjoy it and always find diffrent ways to fly it. aif you wanted , you could check the Esky Llama 2 out. It isnt as expensive as the cx, and if heli are not your thing, you didnt spend alot of money. hobbylobby is having a sale for the Llama and its only 100 with every thing you need!!! However, these do not do well out side

I'd say get the CX. I bough a CP 4 weeks ago and found it very hard to fly ...very hard. After 4 sets of blades I can now hover. If I tried forward flight I'd crach for sure. So I went out and bought a CX yesterday. Did more flying on the first battery that I've done on the CP all togather. CX is the way to go. You can always ebay it when you done and it will stay in one pice.

No wind outdoors in AZ? Any wind at all and your CX is stuck indoors.

Very different birds. How far do you want to go? Basic hovering? Full 3-D? Aerial photography?

Begin with the end in mind. If you want to learn even basic aerobatics, the CX is a waste of money, IMO.

But a very good INDOOR flyer for those not interested in aerobatics.

cheers,
George

Thanks

Thanks for all the input. It definately seems the CX is the best choice for a beginner heli pilot from the inputs.

There is wind in AZ. The mornings and evening are very calm though very frequently.

If you have the possiblity of a heli teacher in your area ,I would start with a used Raptor 30 or something like it thats flown in your area. Very stable and can take wind.
I started on a R30 and looking back can't imagine starting out with a CP. I know many have started that way and I guess I could have too if they were around. Any heli guys in your area? Cx is great and I'd like to have one for th winter too,,but you will tire of it pretty soon. It is so stable it's not like a heli at all. It's a model hanging from a string,,,,it is amazing though .

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly better than I can pilot them

I don't have any heli pilot/instructors in my area. From talking to hobby shops and flying fields in the area they frown on heli pilots. I have tried for about a year to find a eli instructor in the Tucson, AZ area and havent had any luck.

That's a shame that so many plankers hate heli's.
Well ,get a CX then soon get the CP!
Good luck and tell us how you like it.

CX is an excellent indoor heli. It is very stable and very SLOW when compared with the conventional pot-and-boom design. It may seem boring to those who fly CP's or Raptors. But I was able to make it interesting by adding a Kamov KA-27 body to it and enjoy indoor scale flying when I don't feel like to drive 20 min to the closest field.

Hey Heli Pic Don't get me wrong ,,I love the CX and I think it will be my next heli purchase this winter! Ifeel the same as you when I don't want to drive all the way to the field and load up and charge etc ,,I fly my Blade CP but last winter when soked in with bad weather I wanted a CX. Nice job on your CX by the way.
Any info on the left heli picture?

You can get the kit from Raptorblade.com for $45. The guy who is selling it goes by the name "Depron Dave" on RR.

Blad CX

I placed my order for the Blade CX this morning. I already can't wait to get it. Freem reading the message board and looking around online it looks like it will be a blast.

Local hobby store had in stock, but thought I would order online and avoid the sales tax and also get the free training gear, wall charger, and the 8-AA batteries, plus free shipping. Thanks again and I look forward to posting and reading.

I'm shocked they even had one in stock, since they officially frown on helis. Is this why we call them "plankers?" LOL.

When it arrives, be sure to remove the set screw that holds the flybar.

Congrats and good luck!

I had to ask for Heli as I walked through the whole store and didn't see anything. They had the heli behing the counter near the floor.

I'll bet they can give you a lead on possible
clubs or instruction in your area!

You won't need help with the CX but if the heli
bug bites you, Like so many of us you'll do
better with a coach when learning collective
pitch heli's

You can also do a club search on the AMA's web site

Get some balls and fly a CP

Buying a CX is like buying a toy whirly gig or one of those toy planes with wheels and a 3 foot wire attached to the controller.

What skill do you learn with a CX? How to increase power? Heck I can do that with the volume control on my TV remote! Turn on the ceiling fan and squint your eyes!

If you want to actually develop a new skill and really understand helicopter flight get a Blade CP. Yes, it will be hard to learn and you will crash a few times but once you get the hang of hovering you will be doing something few can do. You will have risen above the plank heads who hate helis because they can't get outside the box.

If your so scared to start with a real collective pitch helicopter then spend the 200 bucks on a good flight sim and fly virtual until you understand the heli enough to get the real thing.

Blade CP with training gear is a better Blade CX and your halfway to a true skill. Ever tried to learn to play a guitar? Your fingers have to bleed until you build up your callouses, but once you can form a chord you become a musician!

Be proud Heli pilots! We are the metal of the RC world!

..end of rant..

Bought Blade CX

I finally received my Blade CX on Tuesday. I have been having a lot of fun with it and feel it is an excellent entry into Heli. I feel I am learning more than just power.

One thing I definately need to get is at least one other battery since the power drains so fast. I have been working the trim issues and it seems I had the trim perfect flying in the garage, but flying in the house is a different story - - - don't know if it is air waves/movement from the blades interferring more in the house since it is a closer area or not.

Thanks again for all the reccommendations for the Blade CX - - - so far I am really enjoying.
