e-E-Sky Honey Bee- Lama- Belt CP- E-Smart > Bell-Hiller mod for Esky HB-CP2 - reduces play

Hi,

I was waiting for a heatsink and smaller pinion for my motor, and decided to see if I can remove some play from the head.

While holding the flybar level preventing it from tilting, twist the blades and you will see a bunch of free-play. Most of mine looked like it was due to bell-hiller arms.

Upon closer inspection, the inside bushing was wobbling on it's post:

I decided to glue it in place. One needs JB weld, rubbing alcohol and Q-tip.

Cleanup everything with rubbing alcohol and put small amounts of JB weld on the inside of the smaller bushing and the plastic post:

Once you push it on, cleanup the bushing surface with alcohol:

Once it sets, lubricate with synthetic oil and re-assemble. Also, make sure that the post does not extend past the bushing, otherwise the b-h arm will be able to slide between the body and the screw. Trim if necessary.

Using this procedure I removed 50% of the play in my HB-CP2.

Let me know how much difference it makes on your heli.

Hi Mike,
I'll try this this afternoon, I was noticing a lot of play as I just converted my BCP to the ESky BH head, I wasn't sure if this was normal.

I'll let you know how it goes.

I noticed you have some rubber tubing on either side of your anti rotation bracket. Were you haveing trouble with the swash stinger popping out? Looking at my Eflight aluminum swash the stinger looks a little short installed on the ESky frame.

NoVNE,

These are two pieces of hard nylon tubing. When I flew with stock TX, they were necessary to prevent the swashplate from "escaping" when full back cyclic was applied. Now I fly a computer TX with reduced travel and they are no longer necessary.

Saahbs,
Do you think that this slop can cause my nose pitching up into the wind problems?

Gmax,

My heli pitches up in fast forward flight and to a degree this is considered normal. In any case, slop in the head can cause yo-yo, bad tracking and vibration, so it is best to remove it.

How is your balance? Rotate your blades so that the flybar is perpendicaular to the length of the heli and rest the flybar on your fingers. Does the heli stay level? tilt forward? or back?

You want it tilting slightly forward.

Mike.

Mike, The CG is good, tilts slightly fwd. It seems that there is alot of slop in the links of the bell mixer mod. Is there any way to TIGHTEN the ball links.

I did not have the pitching up issue before the bell mixer mod.

Gmax,

When you twist the blades while holding the flybar, does the bell-hiller arm move from side to side? twist?

If it does, do the JB weld mod.

Does the mixing head (the thing on the slider) wobble?

If it does, take it apart, make sure that there is no plastic left from the mold, trim it and re-assemble. It should tilt smoothly without wobbling from side to side.

There is nothing you can do about ball links....

I have a follow up bell hiller mod for Honey Bee CP2...

This one involves filing down the outside brass bushing (and the arm) to fit slightly below the inner bushing. The goal is to have the screw installed all the way in, without creating binding.

Keep filing the green area while frequently checking if the inner bushing is flush with the outer.

In the above photo, in red, you can see that the stock outer is way above the inner. As such, the screw will rest on the arm and not on the inner bushing.

After doing this mod along with JB weld, I eliminated all the play due to bell hiller arms and further reduced friction.
