e-Ikarus Piccolo-Eco 8/16 > AXI motor - very hot !

I have a AXI 2826/08 that I have fitted in my ECO8 heli. I am running it on 5s lipo but today I noticed it was extremely hot. It was a hot day (25c). Has anyone had experience of running this motor at this voltage?. I know you can run 2826/10 at 8s lipo (as recommneded in MHW).

Thanks.

AXI's have always run pretty hot in my case. the only thing you can do is to drop the pinion down a tooth or two as im sure your aware but then youll loose H/S

I know i probably aint helped too much but like I say mine runs very hot too and i dont want to loose my H/S

Hey ATB & Windyone,

So are you guys still flying your 2826's on 5 series without
a problem ? Was planning on putting one in my ECO16 within
the next few weeks. I always cool the system by putting a fan
at the front of the frames and then cutting some vent holes under
the canopy near the nose, always seems to pull my temps down
by 40-50 degrees F.

I was however, thrown off by a spec (for these motors) on the
espritmodel.com web sight listing a MAX RPM of only 15000 RPM,
which will surely be exceeded running on 5 series. What do you guys
think ? Should I carry on and forget I ever saw this OR find
a different motor ?

Best Regards
Barry

I have moved on from the AXI motor. On 5s it is pushing it (too high a voltage) and it did get really hot. I am running a Orbit 20-10 which has the built in cooling fan and this seems as lot better. No heat at all. Just need to watch my weight as she weighs in at 1900g all up including th FP 5S 3700 battery. I fly a seperate RX battery so I could use a BEC and save 100g. Not sure I really need 5S but I have the batteries now. Still get 10 minute flights which include tick tocks, flips, rolls and fast fowrad flight with a head speed governed to 1800rpm.

I am interested in using longer blades but without having to stretch.. Just got some 500mm MAH's (only 20mm longer than my BBT 480mmm blades) but the root thickness is too much. What are you using on your ECO16?. I am struggling to find blades to use with the right root thickness. I am also worried about swinging longer blades after all it is only a 4mm feathering spindle.

Mick,

I was running the Ikarus 67153 blades with the curved tip
and washout. My head speed was a bit higher then 1800 I
think it was closer to low 1900's don't recall exactly,
but as I'm sure you already know, a well set up ECO doesn't
need much more to be very aerobatic. Probably why I still fly
an 8 and a 16--they really are a pleasure when all is going well
but, like you say, with a 4mm feathering shaft (amongst other things)
they really cannot take much banging around ..... O - well .
Anyway for this reason I woun't fly on anything bigger or
heavier then the 480mm 67153. Otherwise, a quick landing or
the blades getting out of wack on either start up or spool down,
WILL BEND the feathering shaft. I was considering trying
some stock Mikado 500mm woods on the 16 at some point though,
just for laughs

On the 16, I was running a Mega 22/30/3 wrapped in a KK600 heat
sink on 5 series. Always thought this set up was sweet, Though
I've wanted to switch this motor into a Logo 10 I have in the
works and thought the AXI 2826/8 would be a good alternate for
the 16 (as I have it laying around). Assuming I'll still have
the cooling fan up front, I suppose I'll have to give it a try.

Thanks for responding.
