Hi Quick Worldwide,

I got into flying when I was real little, watching my dad. Then we would build balsa and tissue paper rubber powered planes. He then got me on control line, then off to rc. I guess it just stuck

Not long ago I saw a DIY show with a picollo fun fly heli and that planted the seed.

I think it's great to get kids into the hobby, both boy and girls. It teachs soooo many skills, plus patience etc.

Cheers,
Leslie

Irwin,

I love the title of your post. My wife and I both fly Helis together and she is getting much better.

We both enjoy the time together flying. It seems to make it all come together..

Good luck to your daughter. I am sure she will shine at flying..

Me too.

I saw my first RC plane at the age of 2 or 3 and I remember it! About 1971. When I was 4-5 I watched dad light the "DT" fuse on some big Free Flight model and send it soaring into the Arizona dessert.
Before I could drive,(late 70's early 80's) my mom would take me to the flying field and wait patiently.

The CX would be a great place to start. They fly nice and the charge last for 15 minutes or more. Parts cost to rebuild is cheap and most hobby shops carry them. I have my 10 year old son flying great on the sim. He has hovered the blade CP for a few seconds at a time a couple of times but hasn't tried it again. Don't want to push him. Right now he is into monster trucks and drives them very well. Have to get him on the track and let him have fun. Still hoping he gets into flying though. Chuck

My 12 year old daughter has been using my G2 sim to fly Heli's all summer. I've had her out with my Raptor 30 a couple times. I told her if she gets straight A's in 7th and 8th grade she can have it. It shouldn't be a problem with the A's. She has already cost me an unknown amount of money in private drum lessons and drum set accessories. She was told 3 years ago that A's and B's keep her in private drum lessons but straight A's get her drum set stuff. If she earns the Raptor atleast then I have a good reason for a 90 sized ship.

I'm hoping to start learning soon. I'm 18, and the daughter of a heli flyer... my idea of a "computer game" when I was little was my dad's flight sim! I agree that its a thing that the family can get into.

My son started with a CX last winter. He was 5 years old during the photo. He was flying the right stick while I controlled the left. He usually has enough energy to go non-stop all day, so it was funny when he had to ask me for a break after 5 mins of flying because he was concentrating so hard. It totally reminded me of how I felt hovering for the first time myself.

Hi All

I have just recently gotten back into Helis. I had three back in the late '80s, (2 Hirobo Shuttles, and a GMP Cobra), when I was in high school. I had to get rid of them when I bought my first house.
Anyway, last Christmas I visited an old friend that I used to fly with, and he let me fly his little Blade CX. I couldn't believe after not touching a radio in 10+ years, I was able to fly the Blade around his living room like I hadn't ever stopped flying. SO of course I went out and got myself a CX as soon as I got home.

After a couple of months I was a little board with it so I bought a Caliber 30 from the same friend. About this time my wife started telling me that I shouldn't be starting a hobby that would take away from time spent with my two kids. So I did the logical thing, I bought my oldest (10 year old daughter), a Caliber 30 off of ebay ready to fly for $355.00. Then I got G3 sim and started both my daughter and my 4-1/2 year old Sun on it. I told my daughter that as soon as she can hover the sim she can try the real thing. I told my Son that he can have the CX as soon has he can hover the sim. They both seem very excited to get into this. I can hardly believe it but my sun can hover better than my daughter. He is just about ready to try the CX for the first time.

I know my wife is thinking, that isn’t what she meant. She wanted me to not buy the heli. I can’t tell you how happy and excited I am that my kids are interested in the hobby. My daughter can’t wait to take her Heli to school for show and tell. She says all of the boys will be so jealous. I am looking forward to a the time that we will spend together enjoying our hobby. Now if only I can get the wife into it. It might be a bit of a struggle, she is more interested in the new line of Kate Spade, or Coach and handbags. She complains about how much I have spent on Helis in a short period of time, then I ask her how much she has spent on handbags in the last year and the conversation seems to stop.

Best wishes
Clint

Curious Daughter,

Great.I think it would be great to see more woman in the sport. Maybe you could be the first female competitor at the 3d Masters

Is your dad letting you learn on his helis or are you getting one of your own?
