You guys are in my Paramedic Unit response area so be careful. I work at the Fire Station on Lake Creek Parkway so I'll stop by and see you fly some time...Bill

I'll be out at Target at some point tomorrow...I still need to get my rappy all fixed up, but I'm aiming for the morning around 9 or 10ish...which will probably mean I'll get there around 11 or noon.

Saturday at the Target field is looking like a good flying day for me. My charger is back and the wind is calming down too.

hey guys, i'm new to helis, just got my first, its a blade cp pro, not much but hopefully it will be a good starter for me in a hobby i plan to stick with for a while. is there anywhere good for me to fly? i have heard that it will be hard for me to fly outside so i have been practicing in the garage. also is there an upcoming event you guys are planning? i would like to watch some experienced pilots and maybe get some help/hints. thanks

New2Helis,
Welcome to the club. I am sure you will enjoy this hobby. I started about a year ago on helis but I still feel like a newbie.

To be perfectly honest, I am not sure the Blade CP-Pro is the best first heli. But I could be wrong (I often am).

I don't know of any event being planned for this weekend. I have been busy with a softball tournament.

As for places to fly, there are a number of clubs around town as well as many city parks and school yards. The Blade CP is small enough, combined with the fact that you will only be hovering for a while, means that you should be able to fly it just about anywhere. You want to find a place that has a large open area and is free of people. I would suggest that you try to keep it fairly low until you get the hang of it. Also, if you don't have any training gear, make some.

As for flying outside, wind will be your enemy. Try to pick calm periods to test your skills.

Feel free to keep an eye on this thread. I am sure at some point the guys will want to get together again and post the details here.

Good luck,
Joe

new2heli's - where are you located at? A lot of us get together up in north Austin at the closed down Target (behind the Bank One building) at 183 and Pecan Park.

I haven't flown a Blade CP...it will be a little more difficult than learning on something larger, but once you get the hang of it you'll have fast reflexes and you'll be better when you get something larger.

I would try to stay indoors for now...or in areas that are more shielded from wind, maybe your garage or backyard. Micro helis don't like much wind...they can handle it, but you might not be able to at first

The nice thing about the Blade is that the parts are pretty inexpensive. Which I think is one of the best things a beginner heli should have go ahead and pickup some extra blades, you'll know what other parts to get after a couple of days

I'll be flying out at the ASF glider field tomorrow. Electrics and unpowered planes are welcome. It's up in Pflugerville...if you're in that area and would like someone to check out everything before you get started send me a PM before about 10:00am tomorrow and I'll shoot you directions.

Have fun!
Jared

Hey RCTaz, did the idea to charter the Rotorz as an AMA club die out?

I wouldn't say it has died out. But I would say it is rather dormant until we can find a suitable field.

Saturday Flying - my first Raptor hover

Was anyone flying on Saturday... yep, ME.

Took my Raptor 50 out and did my first flying and hovering, here in San Antonio, at the field many local heli guys fly at. If ya think about the first time you hovered your Nitro, you know how I was feeling and what great a time I had on Saturday!

Have been playing with the Blade CX at home, mostly in the living room with limited space or seldom quiet days in the back yard. Trying to fly the Raptor 30 or 60 in RF G3 sim when can. I went through a couple tanks of fuel on Saturday, so as the saying goes...

...there is nothing like the smell of Nitro in the morning,
when it coming from your own helicopter!
