Hey you Austin-ites, mind if a San Antonio flyer attends? Sounds like a fun time and I'd like to be part of it.

Sure Steve, I plane on being there too.
Bring some of your S.A. buddies. I think it’s going to be a small heli invasion.

For the rest of you guys, I’m going to bring my little grill so we can burn some weenies and hamburger patties if you bring them.

Hey Jess,
Man I thought I had replied to your post!? I'm getting old man, losing my damn mind I tell ya. Anyway, I had a blast too. Your Logo 10 is nice but man can that thing sneak up on ya! It is so quiet. Those Milwakee batteries are the bomb, especially for $100. Wish you could make it this Sat. Have a good trip though.

July 15 - Austin Fun Fly

Hi Guys,

Just heard about this meet from Steve (where are ya'll posting the notices - ha). I'm also in San Antonio, looking to get in to flying and working on RealFlight G3 at present with a Raptor 50 waiting in my shop to go fly.

Is there much formality to the Austin area helicopter pilots?

We have a non-formal group in San Antonio that flys on the west side of town, near Loop 410 and Culebra Road.

There is virtually no formality at all with us. We are basically just a group of guys in about the same general area that share an interest in flying model heli's. As far as I know the only formality is that you need to have current AMA to fly at this particular field.

Although I will likely not be able to make it this weekend, I would most cetainly like to. I hope you all have fun.

"Loop 410 and Culebra Road"

That sounds like it's on the Southwest Research Institute Facility campus. I used to visit there a whole bunch.

Man this is a serious bummer! No not that you guys are putting together an event that sounds like it is going to be awesome. But the fact that I just heard that the softball tournament that I have to go to this weekend looks like it is going to make it. THis means my happy fanny will be in Seguin watching my daughter play softball instead of out flying with you guys.

Oh well. Have fun and stay safe everyone.

I'm getting excited, can't wait to see some of you fly! Well I'm just about out of here so won't be online anymore so can't give directions via pm. When you turn onto Slaughter Ln. heading west from IH-35 start counting stop lights. You will pass thru three working stoplights, the third light is S. 1st ST(you will see a Shell station on your right and a Chevron on your left). If you set your odometer to zero at S. 1st St. you will go almost exactly 1/2 mile and the entrance to Mary Moore park is on your left. Just turn into there and you'll see the field on your left in no time. It's probably less than a 1/4 mile.

Looking forward to meeting you guys and checking out your heli's!

July 15th - Austin fun fly

Guys,

Its was a great day in Austin today! The Helicopter fun fly or "social"? was a great success I think. There were many R/C helis flying, scale and model, electric and nitro. Plus a couple amazing larger "scale" airplanes too. And lots of great conversations and people to talk with.

I'll let someone else fill in the details, but I think there was about 30 Helicopters there. Here is two quick photos showing the line up, of helicopters and pilots/owners! And the setup on the "heli side" of the field.

I would like to be thank those that made this possible! From the guys that started the thread to the ones encouraged the meet, to those that forwarded the emails and passed the word. I can only hope that this maybe a semi-regular, non-formal, social gathering.

...from the guy that did not fly, brought a pop-up, and had to get rid of sodas before the drive back to San Antonio (har har).

What a day!!

Hey guys,

All I can say is Wow!..what a turn-out!

Thanks to all who attended. It was a great time with great people! saw many old friends and made some new ones!
It was nice just Bs'ing the day away and watching some great flying.
A big thanks to To Steve and Jim for supplying the food and BBQ pit! And Mike(RCtaz) for helping me with the drinks....it was great.

Also, My thanks to john(subsailor) for putting the word out on his end and helping make this litlle FF possible.

I hope everyone had a good time, I know I did.

The plans are already in the works for another informal event at another field, so keep your eyes out for the details in the weeks to come!!
